Perhaps this complete lack of security for the "Heir to the Bhutto Throne" is intentional. Bilawal is only 19 years old, has not been raised in Pakistan, is not intimately familiar with the culture, and has no political experience what so ever. It is obvious that as the next leader of the PPP - he is worthless.

However, if he were to be asassinated, were to become a sacrificial lamb, and a martyr to the cause - he would pave the way for the PPP to ride a wave of sympathy into power. He is more valuable to the PPP dead than he is alive.

I pray that the power players of Pakistan's twisted, corrupt political system - specifically his father and the PPP - are not using this young man's life as a political tool. How sad and tragic if they are.

What kind of political system has party chairmanships passed down from mother to son? Even in our country, you have to be elected to any position like that. I don't get it. Maybe that's why Pakastan is so backwards, even by Arab standards.

Oh please! If you really think the opposition really needs to look here to get this kind of idea then you truly aren't thinking at all. They wouldn't have this kind of power if they were that stupid! And don't believe that the family isn't mourning. But a family who has an obligation bigger than itself doesn't always have time to sit quietly. If you are going to try to look at wordly issues, do it with a worldy view.
The child should have had more security, but it most likely wasn't available on the short notice the press was given. The family and the politcal party needed to show their resilience and courage to their people and they needed to do it quickly. He did it because it was his duty and it honored his mother. And obviously the press lapped it up. You should pray for the son, no matter how you feel about the politics.

Farooq Leghari) and with the caretaker govt. the investigation team was asked to return to their country....I am amazed how people forget this..and you talk about corruption...which case has been proven..i a resident of pakistan see military corruption in my country...army men retiring as low-ranked captains and getting houses in a posh locality in Rawalpindi... I think it's great that you print this article. Bhutto's mother complained incessently that security was lax or not provided prior to her death.
This just proves the point.

It doesn't do anything but help Musharref for all of them to be assassinated - and one has to really wonder who orchestrated the assassination. The terrorists denied culpability, and they usually jump to the front of the line to accept responsibility for any act, especially one with as much visibility as this one.

There will be no one to usher into power except Musharref when this is over with, mark my words. Maybe there are clues in that itself.

The 19 year old student in a country far from Pakistan is no threat to any of the possible groups that wanted him mother dead. Even Benizar lived undisturbed when in exile. I understand him family has a fortune of money and I would hope they provide him with security; but I don't think it needs to be equal to the level his mother required. Bilawal himself has stated he wants to be left alone while on campus; an indication he doesn't plan to be political. Terrorist aren't threatened by a college kid studying history and keeping his nose clean; they have more pressing issues than that. However, if the kid ever steps out of the school environment and seriously begins making headlines in the political press and one day returns to Pakistan...he'd better have security BETTER than the Spice Girls.

Dear Chapman Bell, It is very surprising that the security was not that intense considering this is Benazir Bhutto's son who is speaking to the crowd of journalists. Bilawal Bhutto Zadari would seem to be thrust into inheriting this political dynasty that certainly seen its share of trouble over the years. The country of Pakistan which has been called "the world's most dangerous place" is going to be a very difficult region to control and Bilawal Zadari may find the task of heading this party extremely hard. Time will tell when elections are held on February 18th because it might possibly determine who runs the country and by that its future for its people. But again back to the security or lack of it. I think if I were Bilawal Zadari I would want more security around me considering what happened to Benazir Bhutto. May peace come for the people. Peace to all!
