There is tension on every street in west Beirut, not only at the Arab University when the incident between the government and opposition supporters happened Thursday.

This senseless violence continues to disolve the future of Lebanon's potential and takes away the dreams of its' children. Those responsible for the unrest should relaize that they do so at the expense of their children's future. The criminal war this summer has had lasting effects and only plays into the hands of outside interets. Stop the madness.

Beirut tension – neighbor to neighbor

I have differnt friends in Lebanon, muslims and christains. Most are brain washed in believing this is evil and thats evil. We all have differnt opions, that is what makes us so differnt, we do not kill some one because we are differnt with opions..Its called a rite to have your own opion...Maybe every one should sit back and make there statements instead of running in the streets killing. How can a religion say that it is peaceful and spread such violence amongst themselves. Revenge and violence are the center pieces of the religion. No matter what portion of the voters are that elect a government , the opposition regardless of the size ALWAYS resorts to violence to win the agruement.

Beirut tension – neighbor to neighbor

ITS OBVIOUS! Have you not heard the Jewish fable:

A fox wanted to pull a hippo out of a lake, but had not he strenght. So he gave the Hippo a rope and said, "If I can pull you out of the pond, it is mine to swim and live in", the hippo agreed with a chuckle.
The fox ran to the elephant and asked him to tug on the other end of the rope. The elephant and the hippo ended up pulling against one another...FOR THE FOX.

WAKE UP, do what right, do what is pure and be humane towards others. Stop selling your soul for money and backing of lies America.

Beirut tension – neighbor to neighbor

wars and violence are not feuled by religions, they are feuled by greed and the ugly part of the human nature. these elements always reveal themselves in every conflict. i dont see any different between religion ignorance and capitalistic greed

Beirut tension – neighbor to neighbor

Religion has been and will always be the core of almost all of the conflicts in the world.

I know in my heart Lebaneses both Christian and Muslins in Lebanon can bring peace to Lebanon and prevent a civil war and blood shed. By working to bring people together for the good of the country free of outside influence. No,I'm not with any government, religious group. As a former American Peacekeeper I fell in love with the people and the country of Lebanon. I too have witness the blood shed to my fellow American during our time in Beirut I feel we have a vested interestin Lebanon and want to send the following message to you and your friends to let you know, we that came in Peace are thinking of you and the country of Lebanon, we support you in your cause for Lebanon of a better Lebanon I hope my letter will
give you hope as you try to live the dream of what you hope Lebanon will become and what Lebanon's rich history has give you as a nation. My web site is http://beirut-documentary.org

                  A Peacekeeper's Dream

To the young people of Lebanon both Christians and Muslims you have a chance to make the pen mightier than the sword and stop any blood shed or civil war in your country. Follow in the foot-steps of Muhammad and Jesus as their teaching has been given to you.
As great leader (JFK) of my country once told the world, we come into this world the same way, we use the same resources, we breath the same air and we leave this world in the same way. If we do not find away to live together and solve our differences then we will destroy ourselves.
I was in your country in a dark time when your fellow citizens tried to do just that destroy each other. 23 years later have we not learned it did not work then and will not work now. This why I'm appealing to your the young of Lebanon both christians and Muslims to make the pen mightier than the sword and return your country to the place of beauty it once was and is.I believe I and others have a stake in your country because of the blood shed
by our friends to give you a chance to have and find peace. I was a peacekeeper in your country in 1983 and fell in love with your country and you as a people.I hope some day to return to Lebanon as a friend and share with you young Lebanese the beauty of this beautiful place called Lebanon. Make the pen mightier than the sword. Find peace for Lebanon. You have the power to make it happen.
Ed Lamica, A Peacekeeper 1983

I hope this letter will be read by many of the young people of Lebanon of all background in the hope this simple letter of support and hope will help open minds to make the pen mightier than the sword. May we meet some day as friends so I can share in the rich history and beauty of your country. Please show this letter to as many people as your can to show them with pain there can be hope

But what outsiders don't realize is the corruption and economic problems that make life in Lebanon so difficult for so many and how it fuels the conflict. Many people want to just live apeaceful life. How many countries do you know where your electricity turns off every four hours for example. People pay much intaxes but where are the services? Where are jobs for people? Even those who have jobs barely make more tha $500 per month and often less. The economic problems and lack of infrastructure in my opinion are a huge source of discontent in lebanon and leads to the sectarian strife that we see there.

Beirut tension – neighbor to neighbor

The people of Lebanon, like many other Third World countries, breed too much. As population density builds up there will be more and more violence. The book, Collapse, shows how population density leads to genocide and environmental collapse. Most of the Middle East and Africa is headed in that direction.
