No Camera so the government does not have to defend its action. Well, let's face it the time has come for the supreme leader (Ayatollah Khamenei) and president Dr. Ahmadinejad to step down peacefully in order to avoid any further bloodshed. For 30 years Islamic Republic of Iran has been picking up the nominees from the ballot boxes. Who do you think is in charge of monitoring a fair elections in Iran when the Fox guarding the henhouse? What is funny this time however is that the supreme leader filtered all candidates except four of them, whom all have served under this regime and are proven to be royal to the supreme leader. The problem is within the Islamic Republic of Iran, they are so divided that they could not even accept Mr. Mousavi to be elected (their own nominee)!!! A day before election and during the election the Iranian government had no choice other than to stop SMS, e-mail, site access, including foreign media reporting in order to tamper the ballots. They managed to counts over 40 million paper ballots in less than 4.5 hours!!! In fact they announce the possibility of Dr. Ahamadinejad re-election within two hours. Those who have voted for Mousavi knew in advance that the government will pull Dr. Ahmadinejad once more from the box regardless of casted votes.
Now, after 30 years of deception by Iranian government, people are looking for a any excuse to show their anger and frustration! The reality is that, these demonstrations will never stop even if the Ayatollah Khamenei agrees and admit that a fraud has occurred (that is unlikely), or Mr. Mousavi is elected as a president in a new referendum. Remembber Mr. Mousavi’s election is nothing but another selection by Ayatollah Khamenei as well.
It is up to Ayatollah Khamenei not to let his vilayat-e-faqih turns into vilayat-e-vaqih. Otherwise, I am sure Iranian will take this opportunity to abolish the vilayat-e-faqih, so the elections will never, ever turns into selections by the supreme leader.

I can't believe the government actually thinks the world doesn't think the election was rigged. With millions of people in Iran voting and all done by paper ballots - nothing computerized - people were still voting at 10pm and within 3-4 hrs. after that, they anounced a winner. Look Iran needs to fix it's own troubles.
They have made claims they everyone in IRAN is happy with things they way they are... But this proves they aren't. In fact this was the only way the people of Iran could complain about anything without getting hit up side the head with the back of an AH-47. Now it's on. The government is going to make a bunch of people dissapear. Just like the Nazi's did.

It's sad but the truth is the people of Iran need to step up and fight for their rights. But I don't think that's going to happen. Both guys running for president are stooges for the real power. The religious leaders are getting unhappy that saying god says so isn't as powerfull as it once was. They are not happy about having to care about what the people want.

For it to get better it has to get a lot worse. Sadly many people would have to be hurt and many would have to loose their lives.

I'm not saying people should do that but it's what every opressed group has had to do.

My prayers go out to the the reguar folks caught up in this.

ON THE OTHER HAND, with a total of 35 million votes in 45000 polling stations(http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/blog/2009/jun/12/iran-middleeast), it is not inconceivable the votes could be counted within 3-4 hours even by hand. The average number per polling station is about 778 votes! With the initial 20 million votes counted, Ahmadinejad had over 66 percent(announced in the famous 2 hours)and finished with 62 percent. I expected him to win since unlike many he is not a thief and is a true patriot and his Holocaust remarks notwithstanding, he has almost done as much work for Iran in the past four years as did Reza shah(metaphorically). Iranians couldn't believe themselves sending satellites into orbit or be able to avert a certain US/Israel attack. Most importantly he reached out to the US for dialog, something no reformist could possibly do in Iran since he had the support of all institutions. Also he inherited the bad economy for which he is being blamed. This crisis seems to be an internal coup attempt by the "corruption front" against him by utilizing the popular frustration with the whole system along with typical Iranian conspiracy theory-mentality as well as mob psychology. It is a dangerous game of fire these guys are playing. If the top blows, they'll be the first ones to burn.

To Escondido and others. It's called diplomacy for a reason. The US president is in a difficult position. Supposing he comes out strongly in favor of the opposition in Iran and the end result of all that is going just now is that Ahmadinijad remains the president. We're still stuck dealing with him and the words of opposition support Obama would have said can't be taken back. Ahmadinijad feels slighted or even very angry at our interference and he makes things more difficult than they already are considering his proclivity for playing around with nuclear power. Where does that leave us? It's a dangerous world out there and one must be careful that the bull doesn't come back and try to gore us.
At the moment, Iran is working on its own destiny and the world is watching. We don't need to be "911" for the rest of the world to call on. Charity begins at home. We went into Iraq and shouldn't have; we should have learned from that mistake.

Why we all have an opinion about the election in Iran, change in that country will only come from within. However, if the government reacts to demonstrations by killing the protesters, will we act differently simply because they are an islamic state? We watched the massacres in Tiananmen Square, and that didn't stop Americans from buying chinese goods or the American government from trading with China. Our country always acts in its own interest, not the interest of others, so why I sympathize with the Iranian people, I know they will have to control their own destiny.
