Pakistani Govt. should take responsibility, Mush and Zia mess it up and Pakistani is one of the most dangerous countries to live in.It is interesting to note that former President Musharraf inherited a far more fledgling Pakistan in 1999, a Pakistan which was on the verge of being declared a terrorist, bankrupt and a failed state. Musharraf inherited a Pakistan which had less than a billion dollars as foreign reserves, with an economy the mere size of $75 billion, and with 65% of our GDP used for debt servicing. Although currently our economy is fast deteriorating due to the incompetency of the new regime (who looted Pakistan in the past), the situation in 1999 was FAR WORSE than what it is now.

And despite not receiving the above level of support and commitment from the international community, Musharraf and his team were still able to deliver, with Pakistan’s situation improving prior to September 11, 2001. For example:

Pakistan’s foreign reserves had risen up to $3.2 billion by September 10 2001. To quote Dr. Ishrat Husain:

“In 1999, the ratio of foreign reserves held by India was 40 times that of Pakistan. By June 2002 this ratio has declined to 8 times while the size of Indian economy is about 6 to 7 times that of Pakistan.”

One of the problems is the United States has given Pakistans Government Billions of dollars over the last 20 years or so for their defense and internal needs however they used much of the money for reasons other than defense and it's people. In other words they put in their pockets. At first it was to support the war against the Soviets then later to help with the war on terrior and border security. Now that they have blown the money and are limited by their military means to fight off the Taliban. There is a lesson here for all of us in America. We can never let our military get weak. It will come back to bite us. The Taliban and it's supporters will stop at nothing to achieve their goal, that being a total control over the entire area. WE must step in with our military and pull no punches if there is to be any peace in that part of the world.

Gee, I feel extremely outraged at pictures of innocent children (?) that have been injured/harmed becuase of conflicts because of cultural, religous, ideological differences. Then I am able to access a whole slew of pictures, videos, and instruction manuals on a whole different perspective of these poor victimized children.

Gee, I don't recall teaching my son how to use a fully automatic AK-47 or how to construct an IED.
Yes, I instructed my son on the proper handling and safe use and handling of firearms. This was instilled on me by my Father, as well as my GrandFather. Yes there was some instruction on how to use firearms for "Defense", though the majority was directed towards Safety and the Protection of Human Life (male sure of your target before you even put your finger on the trigger). However, the pictures and documentaries I have seen that show these same "Chidren" being trained on use of "Fully Automatic Weapons" (which, by the way, one can NOT legally puchase, own, buy in this country without goiung through wroitten Laws and the BATF, that is if someone would enforce Laws currently on the books) to continue, instructed on terrorist methods. How naive are those that accept what is presented as fact without question, though they be ignorant or have no knowledge or understanding of that which was put before them. (If you don't know, understand, or comprehend what the previous statement means, don't bother responding, as you have no concept of what what "Life, Liberty, and the persuit of Happiness" means. (Yeah, I know, your too busy with your I-Pod,text messageing, Guitar Hero...Yada Yada Yada...)

Secondly Talibans are not extremist because extremist means if someone practice the religeon more than needed but they are out of Islamic guidelines and in my eyes they are "Munafiq" and Munafiq are the wood of Hell according to Quran. Read this saying of Hazrat Ali a.s in Islamic believes or ELIJAH in Bible or Taurah and think about what Islam is; "respect another mankind, they are brother to you in religeon or creation" this one statement has guided us to respect regardless if someone is or not from your faith. This is what Islam is not what Taliban (malaoon) practicing. While a few Taliban want to commit suicide the only reason these organizations thrive is because they've been brainwashed into thinking that victory is possible. I'd love someone to ask them "What will you do if you win?" because honestly I can't imagine what a Taliban run country would be like.

We can blame the US for taking a stance, and we most assuredly can blame those in control for failures, but the media will never report the successes.

For each ravaged innocent the media brings to our attention there are thousands who are able to find some solace because someone IS fighting these terrible people.

Consider the alternative. America doesn't intervene. No one does. Let's just leave the terrorists be and worry about ourselves.

would that i could create a world that is a land of plenty for the poor of pakistan. where there are better things to do than fight because there is not enough. i live on social security disability in the u.s. and i would gladly give $150 a month to a family so that they could have a little bit more in their daily lives. so much dust and dirt, so little green, a world where there is water for farms and farm animals and habitat for fish and birds of the air, many oasis everywhere. the refugees cannot return to what was, blasted as it is. and world vision must provide well for them in their exile. may they return even with those that have been lost and may the injured be made whole. $ for provisions, there are, from foreign humanitarian pockets, including farm equipment, seeds for planting and the farm animals. better food will make for better health and feed brains that will be hungry for schooling and good jobs. the miracles and the water will come from above.

I feel terrible for the innocent civiians caught up in this fight. 100% blames falls on the Pakistani gov't and military, they created the Taliban movement and now the "chickens" are coming home to roost. As an Indian, I am enjoying the slow break up of Pakistan.

People of Swat & other adjoining areas are innocent victims of Taliban's atrocities.Talibans are all agents of satan and are not doing the will of Allah as claimed, they are rouges,robbers,rippers and murderers and should be flush out of existence. its interesting that these countries want american dollars, but not american interference, so lets just take the money , give them their "independence" and let them solve their problems their way, the fighting in these middle eastern countries have gone on for generations, America is just the latest to be blamed, let their own regional governments and neighbor countries help them andlets use our dollars here at home.

The news reports I am reading on this new afghan/Pakistan problem show that they do not know the difference between a normal moslem, a taliban, an Al Qaeda, a militant, a suicider who may have a whole dead family and not care if they live anymore or a normal villager. The responses from readers shows their religious bigotry against MOslems and their ignorance of how people "over there" live.
