LONDON – Thousands of protesters from disparate walks of life danced and chanted in downtown London on Wednesday ahead of the G-20 meeting of world leaders.

The only real concession the anti-military hippies got out of it was an end to the draft. But then none of them ever served and they burned their draft cards anyway.

In any event, demonstrations these days are weak compared to mass movement demonstrations such as the "riots" of 1848 in Europe, and the Paris communes of 1870. Even these armed movements never won because monarchies went on for almost another 100 years, and in Russia the masses exchanged horse tramplings by Cossacks for machine gunnings by the state security people.

12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

Welcome to the New World Order. There were probably 100,000s of protesters in London protesting today, but to accurately report would be validating the movement... Instead of going to work and making a living, they dress like freaks and pretty much ask for that living to be handed to them. If they are homeless/ poor it appears that it is their fault. It has provided more food, technology, money, and health advances than any other type of economy or government. The problem is not monetary or political, it is moral and cultural. Yes,people spend too much and consume too much, but those are individual choices. The more we as people become secular and hedonistic in our values and conduct the worse things have become. The European model is a joke,,,and we ALL saw how that Soviet thing worked out! It will not. Some one made a statement about the have's and the have not's. They are correct. I don't have the statistics but there are numbers out there and I will try and find them and post them.

Globally, there are more millionares (the US created them quicker and in larger numbers than any other G20 country) then at any other time in recorded history.

Money is a finite resource.....unless of course the global treasuries want to print so much of it all currencies won't be worth the paper they're printed on.

Anyone want to think about what will happen as more and more of it passes from many hands to the few???

Global anarchy...the masses will have no choice but to swarm in the thousands or more on the bastions of greed and hubris that have used systems of exploitation to acquire wealth....how else is it 'earned'...think about it!!!

Money never disappears....it just changes hands. So when 95% of the worlds wealth is held by 5% of it's people can we expect them to sustain the global economies? Anyone know what that would mean? Perhaps each of them would need to buy 1,200 homes and 7,250 cars a MONTH!!! Is that going to happen? I don't think so. Unfettered capitalism and free enterprise panders to the worst of human faults....the desire for power, wealth and control.

We are headed to the global tipping point and I'm not hopeful that those in power will just wake-up one morning and say to themselves, 'Today I'm going to do the right thing. I'm going to work within a morally and ethically centered posture of thought and action and not try and rip off everyone I can!!!'

I wish they would, but human nature being what it is, well you know what they will do.....take, take, take for me, me, me!

Will this Earth be better off without us on it? Corrupt leaders, and corrupt companies are the problem. If these demonstrators would pull their money out of the banks ect. it would have more effects. Nothing will be fixed if the government takes ever the banks for the public, because that is when they stop being public and become very very private. Companys like GE are more public, when you don't like what their doing, vote with your feet and get your stock out. Sounds like these people need a reality check. What is the alternative in their minds, or are those minds so closed due to the fact that they don't have conceivable notion of what they're talking about. Capitalism is the way to go but not in its current state. Overhaul it to make it work better. Instead of giving these corporate greedy CEO's millions upon millions with stock options as bonuses, put a limit on those bonuses for starters. They could put the extra money to good use by investing it into better health care provisions for the employees that actually got those companies where they were for one. What about doing the same for the entertainment and sports industries? Why do celebrities and athletes feel they need to be paid the mega millions that they get? These are just a couple of ideas I have and grant it, it would need a scrutinized look-over to eliminate the loop holes, but how it's working right now is completely unfair to the common person.

12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

T. What happens when no one is working and producing goods and services (CAPITALISM) because everyone is waiting in line for their government rations (SOCIALISM) because of their sense of entitlement (Government programs like the welfare system and Medicaid programs grant upon individuals.) Not everyone in line will receive their rations because they (government) ran out. Look at Venezuela, Darfur or any number of Socialist - Communist countries and they are starving. Fields lay fallow because their Government prohibits their use. For example, in 1932–33 the government of the Soviet Union intentionally starved five million Ukrainian peasants to death. During the "Great Leap Forward" the Chinese government caused the death by starvation of twenty-seven million, the largest starvation in human history. See Rummel, R.J. Death by Government (Transaction Publishers: New Brunswick, 1994) , pp. 80, 97. The Haves feast while the Have-nots go famished. Its a natural occurence that happens once people begin to trade with each other. The problem isn't money- before they had paper money, cows were used as money- even in prison cigarettes are used as money. The problem has always been- government monopoly over money. People don't need the government to issue money- it can be done privately and has been in the past. Once there's a monopoly on money- that's where inflation becomes an issue and brings us to all of our economic problems today.

12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

No matter what the circumstances, some people are just plain stupid. Im sure 99,999 of those 100,000 people were out protesting when the economy was booming, right? Nope. They were in Best Buy purchasing their first flat screen TV, thinking " Isnt life Great?" Now theyre dressed up like morons and smashing windows. Terrific. Maybe thats why youre not in charge. And even if real change happens, guess what, you still wont be in charge. Because you are sheep. Yes, greedy people ruined it for everyone...blah. Shocking I know. Maybe if you hadnt been such sheep throughout the many years of economic boom, you wouldnt be in such dire straits today. Baa Baa

12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

For those that think that a demonstration is a waste of time, then I say you are the people that sit back in your armchair and leave it up to others to do your talking for you.
This demonstration is at least letting the G20 know that someone out there does care about what is going on. There are more protests planned along the German/French boarder (No to NATO) which I agree with, but would never take part in.

The challenge is for people to wake up and stop believing that someone like Obama, Brown, Sarkozy, etc. will do anything to change the status quo. There is NO accountability for our own actions. Everything from poor education systems to foreclosures is a direct reflection of our inability to look in the mirror and blame the person looking back. The education system is not a babysitting program and education does not stop when school lets out for the day, parents need to be involved. It makes no difference if the education system is a poor inner city school or a private academy. As parents we owe it to our children to be there for them, the TV and video games are not substitutes for a parent’s guidance. Let’s blame the banker and the government for trying to provide all Americans with the ability to buy their own home. Sure there was a lot of greed going on at the corporate levels, but just because someone tells you that your loan was approved for $300,000 doesn’t mean you need to buy a house that costs that much. If you consider that almost 50% of American bring in $2000 or less a month buying things we can’t afford is a good indicator that we are living well beyond our means. Sure the easy thing to do is blame the previous administration for our problems, but who will we blame when the next president takes office? These demonstrations make me sick why don’t we demonstrate against ourselves for buying goods on credit at 24% Interest knowing we can’t afford them, or filing for bankruptcy protection for buying things we should have never purchased? Again, it’s too easy to blame everyone else for our demise! Do a good self assessment, It’s not the Haves vs. Have Not’s. It’s a Good Financial Assessment vs. Impulse Buying. I was told a long time ago that the Rich get Richer and the Poor get Poorer. There is a reason for this, the Rich invest their money in areas that don’t depreciate or depreciate at a slower rate the Poor invest their money in material things so other people will think their Rich. Who do we blame for that….I’m sorry your right it’s Mr. Bush’s fault.

12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

I hope or dream that some people can
form a main group and spread like cells "same system"
in terrorisme but then based on other achievments.
Take the leaders where you can hurt the most,
to make new one affraid and make the listen to
the people.
Unbalance the system, then break it and form a new.
And then you can say, Welcome to the New World Order!
12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

more a reason for a bunch of people to gather and perhaps cause some mayhem - and yay, paint their faces. When we want something, we work hard for it. Working hard (for the most part) translates into accomplishing something. Many people work hard to get things they want. Sorry to burst the bubble, but consumerism drives innovation. I am not comfortable with living in the dark agaes. If a a sceinetist creates something useful that benefits the rest of society because he knows he's gonna get rich off it, why not let him. Complain all you want, but in the end the ones who work hard and toil for what they get are going to be the ones who survive. Our modern day education leaves us in total reliance on money for one's needs (rather than the substance the money represents). Hard work seems to be a concept that most of the United States (and apparently part of the UK population) have lost sight of. Instead of whining about how unjust everything is and how life should be handed to you on a silver platter--go earn it.

I grew up *well* below the poverty line and was taught two things--if you want anything in life you work hard for it, and you take pride in what you're doing because you're earning your way. So I carried that from my first job at 14 to present day. At 29 I'm making more money and have more opportunities than I ever thought I would in my entire lifetime. I don't have to worry about how I'm going to pay bills, mortgage, buy food, etc. I'm not special, I didn't come from a rich/privileged family, and I did just fine with a state school degree and available financial aid...it worked out just fine for me. All I had to do was work hard.

If someone tells you the American dream is dead or the world works to "make the poor poorer" then they're full of it. Stop whining and do something to help yourself. And money isn't the problem. Money is a tool for exchange, nothing more. Someone above made the reference to bartering practices in early times, the same thing would happen if you just made money "go away" today.

12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

I think what people fail to realize is that this entire mess is due to greed. Government, corporate and consumer greed alike. Corporations threw ethics out the window in search of a "quick fix" to their bottom lines thereby taking on risky investments they traditionally wouldn't have touched. The billion dollar CEOs of these companies weren't about to pull the plugs on their cash cows. The Governments, having their hands in these corporations' pockets weren't going to step in and stop bad business decisions when they were the ones who, in some cases, forced the bankers' hands in accepting sub-prime loans with their government backed programs/loans.
Consumers are no innocents in this mess either. Consumers wanted. And they got it by throwing common sense and caution out the window. No one was suspicious of the creditors while they were shelling out the cash hand over fist to people with less than stellar credit. This may shock many Americans because when I mention Sweden, I have always hear Americans say, "It is a Socialist Country !?" SORRY but Sweden is FIRST AND FOREMOST a Capitalist country (number 3 according to CPW). The Swedish Capitalist System allows the Swedish Social System to function. The "social system" here creates citizens who are EXCEPTIONALLY HEALTHY, and EDUCATED! The Social system then REINFORCES the Capitalist system by providing HEALTHY, EDUCATED WORKERS who do NOT have to bring FAMILY PROBLEMS into the workplace because they know their families are being taken care of.

Death to Capitalism?? Consider the source - a 12 year old! Capitalism is NOT the problem. GREED is the problem! Unrestrained Capitalism (unregulated) is what allows greed!

We already know from history that without regulations, Capitalists can do whatever they want in the name of profit, so we regulate Capitalism. Some ignorant people believe that regulating Capitalism is very bad and refer to regulations that restrict Capitalism as being Communistic and/or Socialistic, or just plain government interference. I would remind these people that regulations (interference) were NEEDED to prevent child labor, to create a 5 day work week, to make a work day 8 hours, to provide a living wage, to ... - well I hope you get the idea.

I sort of laughed when I read the comment that said, "I work for the end of capitalism-imperialism" and then said "Even social welfare as in Sweden would be nice". Americans just do not get Sweden. Without the CAPITALISM, there is no SOCIALISM. Americans see and use the word WELFARE entirely differently than the Swedes see and use the word. Sweden is NOT a "Welfare State" as the Americans would define it. Sweden is a country that has SOCIALIZED the WELFARE of its citizens. For example, Swedes pay taxes to get Universal Healthcare which is FAR SUPERIOR to what is available in the US! You could buy the SAME insurance coverage in the US but it would cost you almost $4,000 PER MONTH (if not more)! (Only for the rich!)

The person who commented that "Socialism attempts to promise equal RESULTS, the only way to do this is LOWER the expectiations for everyone, and the human values mentioned above are suppressed" This person does not have a clue about "SOCIALISM"! --- Sweden's Socialism produced the first country in the world where its children are "equally" VERY HEALTHLY and where a DOCTOR could not tell the social economic status of a child!!!!! - THAT IS CALLED EQUALITY!!! ITS PEOPLE EXPECT THE BEST!!!! Again remember that this "equality" would not be possible without CAPITALISM!!! (Also in reference to this persons comment, I would say that the American Capitalist Medical System definitely "lowers expectations for everyone" and "suppresses HUMAN VALUES"!)

Yes "Consumerism isn't a bad thing" but again UNCONTROLLED consumerism is a bad thing! It IS damaging to our planet and to us as a people. Sweden is a consumeristic society but unlike the consumerism in America, it is "controlled". Swedish culture is somewhat unique because the culture itself is driven by a term called "LAGOM". It roughly means that one should have not too much and not too little, but just the amount they need. Swedes seem happy with what they have and are not "driven" to buy a lot of useless things they do not need.

12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

In simple terms it come down to needs and wants. We all need basic food, shelter and our own sense of being call it faith. On the other hand we all have wants. Some want power or more food or better housing or faster cars, whatever. Capitalism serves the wants and socialism serves the needs. Neither is a complete solution because once the needs are met then the wants are not far behind. That is human nature. So, where do we go from here. I believe we must find a way to provide for all the social needs and provide the ability to seek more as long as it does not imppings on the needs of anyone.

12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

Extremism, not capitalism, is the true poison, here. All the above mentioned points for capitalism (innovation, betterment of mankind, etc.) are valid and a natural part of human motivation. We work to better ourselves. Not to mention, I don't think that we would have been figting against communism and socialism if they were an acceptable substitute.

Liberals are not worthless, thank you extremist republicans. I am a liberal, work 40 hours a week (at night) so I can support myself while going to school full time. My parents have always been hard working (republicans) yet they have had to fight just to have jobs, taking serious pay cuts. That's the story these days. People like you extreme republicans grossly undervalue the rest of us who aren't just like you. Janitors, educators, social workers... so many more... these are the people that hold our societies together yet they are severely underpaid while those who entertain us (sports stars, musicians, etc.) make millions. Until we ALL have a proper perspective on the value of PEOPLE as individuals, capitalism will continue to polarize and alienate those of us who never had a chance to begin with. Talk about trying to create wealth... after all, we live in a capitalist dictatorship.

12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

It was lovely that such a large variety of people came together for a common cause: namely being angery. This protest is not important but the socilaist media is trying to make it so. The economic revolution that the mdia is trying to portray here is not the real story. The real story is that those who have always carried the water are saving their money, paying off their debt and hunkering down till this subsides. Meantime the media tries to paint people like Obama as some great leader who is going to change the world. In the 2010 elections his ten minutes of fame will be over. Even a lot of the people who voted for him don't like him now, but they don't want to admit they made a mistake. I understand that. But when they get into that voting booth in 2010 where no one can see their vote they'll put back the checks and balances that American gov't relies on. This big socialist burp that the world is experiencing right now is driven by uninformed voters who were taught to pull only the Democrat lever because the organizers could barely get these first time voters to show up on election day at all.
Honest work drives success, waiting around for a check to be delivered to a public housing mailbox breeds failure.Five generations of public assistance from the time of Roosevelt have created an even bigger problem in the world than capitalism. Look at your lives people. If your mother and grandmother were on public assistance, then you're just being conditioned to be the next generation of dependents and to breed the future generations of dependents. People like Obama put their kids in private schools. Look at the Kennedys,Clintons and their friends. They live in lavish mansions, usually 3-4 of them, travel the world, spend tons of money and totally love life. You belive THEM when they tell you they will help you? They make so much money they won't disclose much of their finances. Many of Obama's appointees don't pay their taxes. You're being USED!!!
Certain things are constant across all species of animals. If you take a lion cub from its mother and feed it for a year in captivity you have just about doomed it to captivity, because it does not know how to survive in the wild. The same is true for humans. If you raise a child as a state dependent that child will become a life long dependent.
So to all those professional protesters who get bussed from one march to the next, ask yourself if you want that 12 year old child sitting on the bus next to you to be resigned to your pathetic fate in ten or twenty years of sitting on another protest bus being told the talking points of the day and waiting for the organizer to get them some lunch that day.
The Obamas, Clintons, Kennedys, Gores and their Ilk don't know you, don't care about you and don't like you. They just use you for their emotional campaigns. The only people who do well in life pursue success, they do not pursue mediocrity. You're better than they give you credit for. Stop being their tools. Take control of your life. It's not easy but it's rewarding and your kids will actually be proud of a parent that fends for themself.

12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

Death to capitalism? The mess we are in has nothing to do with capitalism as an economic system, it is a result of immoral and greedy people mis-using capitalism and ignoring traditional safeguards

WOW WOW WOW The same words are have been said about the socialist and comunist for decades before 1990 and there was no homeless people. So what we do now?

12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

They should hold these meetings in China which is the type of government these protesters desire. The police were actually unprepared for the situation, riot police arriving after the onset of the violence as police actions aggrevated the protesters. There have been mass redundancies in the UK and many on the march have lost their jobs. The message is people before profit. Whether this requires a move back to socialism or a continuation of capitalism something has clearly gone wrong and it is our right to say 'it was not our fault' and to reclaim the streets we own.

12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

With capitalism comes the desire to improve ones self. What is wrong with that? Yes greedy people have distorted the idea of capitalism but throwing money into the greedy government and its soon to fail socialist policies will only destroy this nation and its poorer people faster. Globalism policies endorsed by both parties have also done much to damage this once great country. Remember people that if you quit consuming manufactured goods the people that make them lose their jobs which only perpetuates the problems.

12-year-old protester: 'Death of capitalism'

Hippies, when are you going to learn that protests do nothing but create traffic jams and clog the local jails. You should all be at work so you can contibute to those who don't work. They were enjoying the great economy and everything these corrupt bankers were doing to make the economy go so well... Everyone is to blame for the current situation and everyone has to pay for the stupidity we all created for ourselves.
