I am sure the Romans, Ottomans, Qing’s and many other old empires or dynasties thought they were more important and the world needed them too. Here is some headline “Other countries do not NEED the United States." I would even go so far as to make comparisons of the US global expansion as the Wal-Mart of the world. We plant a big super store in the middle of a country disrupting their delicate economical balance with large consumerism. We know that the money only reaches a few so the majority of the people don't care or even feel the effects of US economy.
To the contrary the US economy is more dependent on these countries you say need us. There is a reason US auto manufacturers are in despair. I mean labor is so high and the greed of the Unions who are ripping the heart out of its own country. Would you be willing to shell out 50,000 for your basic F-150? I mean if we pay the Union workers what they want that's what the sticker price would need to be for the business to show a profit.
In closing, if the US was to collapse tomorrow another country would rise, other countries would adopt new practices, and future generations would read about these Americans that thought they were so much better than everyone else. Hmmm sounds like a few Romans I read about in my history books.

US exports coke-a-cola, fast food, movies, music, sports and other American products all over the world. We buy oil from the middle east. Textiles from Pakistan, India, and SE Asia, electronics from Taiwan and SE Asia, cheaply-made goods from China, raw materials and agriculture from South America. Let's not forget Mexico. For years the liberals here have been weeping and wailing and moaning and gnashing their teeth about George W. Then, suddenly, yesterday, the greatest evil in the world since the devil himself, (the arch satan of the wine and brie and dope set) walked off the stage onto the helicopter and blew a kiss to the assembled crowd. THAT's the significance of the Inauguration-- that in America the loser, who posesses all the means of coercion in his power,all the alphabet soup of federal agencies that could crush individuals and movements, all the vast arms and armies and navies, simply says "OK, I lost-- Goobye! see ya!"

In the rest of the world, the regiemes the leftie liberals love, like those of Fidel Castro, Robert Mugabe and the clown in Iran, there is no inauguration and the loser holds on till they blast him out of the presidential palace and shoot him.

People in those kakistocracies/kleptocracies are amazed at this and wonder why there are losers. A few realize its because of the American system and our tradition of democracy, human rights, and obedience to the law. But for most that's the part they don't want. On the other hand I have hopes for Russia.The Russians have had a hard road. From the Tzars to the Red Tzar (Stalin) and to the Mafia Tzar (Putin) most Russian history has been simply a monument of the ability of the Great Russian People to endure suffering, and suffering without purpose or hope. Things do not happen overnight, and I am hopefull, and to a degree confident that with the abandonment of Stalinism and the regieme of his colorless successors, things wil improve. You have to learn to crawl before you can walk, and I think that the culture, the faith, the spirit of the Rusian people will endure and slowly win out.

Bottom line... In any society, the "economy" is the sum of the goods and servcies produced by its ctizens as a group. Money is simply a convenient way to transfer the value of the goods and services. In Russia, individual effort to create goods and services is made difficult by the govt. Hence, less "money" or the value of same is less.
