Their liberal journalists would crawl through broken glass to find an anti-Bush, anti-American sentiment to write a story about. People complain back here too whether we have a Republican or Democrat in office that things aren't good enough. Remember to ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country to make it better. Ask those Iraqis if they are ready to bring back a dictator and give up their voting rights. We are suffering, I admit it, is this the best it has been? NO! However, you will not see me standing there pointing fingers or tearing down the government to justify our current state of affairs. Our involvement in Iraq is not the problem, sure that money would help out back here, but not hardly the answer. They think that because one article, slanted toward their opinion, says it is so, then it must be so.
It is common knowledge the news media is biased toward the Libs and therefor a majority of the stories they run are intended to engender in the readers the belief that "that's the way it is"
Wake up! Get your information from someone who knows, talk to a service man or woman who has been there, several times, and ask them the general consensus over there. You may be surprised even scared to find out the same lies and backdoor deals you scream about on the part of the politicians are nothing in comparison to what these so called "news agencies" do.
One example, what has your "news" source been saying about what's going on in the Phillipine Islands? Crickets.
You only have to look inside your own family and network of friends and determine what is important to you. If Obam should win this election, your life and theirs will be no better. The economy will still suck, taxes will go up, joblessness will increase in all sectors except Gvmt employment (Bill's answer to unemployment), and the socialization of America will deepen to a point where a larger section of the population will be dependant on the GVMT for basic survival.
Try voting conservative ten years after the libs have fed, clothed, schooled, doctored and supported you. If you think, "what's wrong with that?" then all I have to say to you is "YOU ARE what's wrong with that, stand on your own two feet, quit being so lazy and complacent and make a stand for something other than the easy way out"
While they have you distracted with all the "free stuff" the basic tenets of the Constitution will be watered down and you will be left with the very thing the document was drafted to prevent, Totalinarian rule, this time by a domestic GVMT, not a foreign one. But really, is there a difference?
These "news" types and the Liberal politicians they represent stand to lose nothing under this arrangement, you and I will lose nearly everything that matters. So while they keep you bottled up with slight of hand and card tricks about one issue or two issues spun to appear to be the most important of the day, making you think you are the smartest person in the room, they are laughing all the way to the White House.
Do us all a favor, read between the lines, take a broader view of the world and your place in it and stop allowing yourself to be controlled by these opinion columnists. After all, if I ran a story about how all of you are unimformed, self - absorbed, welfare minded, socialist puppets to everyone in the news reading world, and there was no voice given to you to defend yourself, what do you think the reader's opinion of you would be?
For weary Iraqis, U.S election smells of ‘honey promises’

If people feel this way in Iraq.... We failed to help them help themselves, and we are going to be paying for it for a long time. I'm for the war, I am for the suppression of the sectarian militias and Al-Qaeda, but I am also for the idea of helping them rebuild. We need to send construction equipment and materials, we need to hire Iraqi architects, Iraqi builders to do this. Instead of doing things for the right reasons the wrong way, why don't we do that? Now whether or not Bush and his crew LIED as we allnow know they did our troops are there with the hope of helping these people and their lack of appreciation is very insulting!!!!!!!

Our troops were still fighting even after theirs decided they would not, thousands of them sat down refusing to fight any longer! Our military is over there having to pay two to three times more for gas than they do! Now here we are in a finanial breakdown with alot of it having to do with money spent over there! While they sit on their behinds talking sh@@! I pray Obama does get in a pull our troops out then these very ones will see the need for our help! Now if they have a problem with anyone that person is Bush and they need to take that up with Bush personally. They need to understand just how things work over here we are not given the truth until it's too late, most Americans wish them, Iran and the rest of the world well, we don't know no more than our gov. let's us know and they often lie to us because they know we are not wanting to cause harm of any kind to anyone, especially if they do not harm us!!!!

Why the hell aren't they out helping our guy and gals to make things better for themselves instead of sitting on their behinds complaining!!???????

So much for McCain and his LIES!Thought those people were happy we were there? Schools were rebuilt, playgrounds put in where there had been none at all, the water treatment plant was refurbished and in working order (hadn't been fully functional for years before that)when they left. We family members of those soldiers sent many care packages with lots of school supplies for the re-opening of the schools, sent shoes and clothing for the little girls that were now finally allowed to attend school (after many years under Saddam of only boys allowed to go). When they were on convoy to other outlying villages to help return electricity and other things we take for granted, the locals would line up at the compound gates to offer fresh fruit to the soldiers as a thank-you. We have wonderful photos of the soldiers playing with lots of cute Iraqi children while their parents sat on the curb watching and smiling.

Things were not quite the same his second tour. Was with another division then and based to the North of Baghdad. Just because you see one thing happening in one bad neighborhood of Baghdad does not mean that is what is happening throughout the rest of the country. We (families) have lots of good stories from our soldiers who have returned from a successful mission and we all mourn for those lost. Still, my son does not want to go back if he does not have to -- it is very, very hot and without the luxuries of home. My son is proud of all that they have accomplished there to date, however, and REALLY appreciates what we have here in the U.S now more than ever. If this country was right next door to us, you know we would be involved in taking out a dictatorship that ruled through terror, with sons that were monsters to their own people, slaughtering thousands and throwing their unidentified bodies in mass graves. We don't have the luxury to turn our backs on those in need anymore -- the world is too small a place. So whether they are right next door or on the other side of the world, as the richest, strongest country in the world we have an obligation to help free others from tyranny.

For weary Iraqis, U.S election smells of ‘honey promises’

It is time we seriously give heed to the leaders in Iraq and come out of that country. We have wasted enough money, time, and lives in a land that has a surplus as we get deeper in debt in America. You are absolutely correct! Why in the hell are we sending our money and soldiers oversees when they are obviously not appreciated and even depised? Oh, the world decries us for the "evil" we spill onto them with our policies, yet, when the crap hits the fan, who do they call first? It's high time we shut off the free money spigot and let the world deal with their own problems! Hell, let the Chinese become the world's humanitarians; they have the (read: our) money, know-how, and the man-power to do it. Plus, they've had plenty of time to practice charity at home -oh wait..

I wouldn't support a policy of strict isolationism; we still need to sell a lot of our wares overseas. As far as economics goes, maybe a drawdown of dependence on foreign made goods and out-sourced services. I wouldn't mind paying more for "made in America" products. As far as sending troops and funding overseas however, forget it! No more!

When the next Hitler or Stalin comes to power somewhere in the world and begins the inevitable "anschluss", look somewhere else for help!Try the French, I hear they're good at placating dictators!

When China invades either Siberia or Saudi Arabia within the next 15 years because they used up more oil than we ever could, guess whose phone is gonna ring? It will be business as usual. Sounds pesimistic, but then again, JFK had the same speeches of "change" and look what it got him! No POTUS will ever step out of line again!

Change will not come from Washington, it will come from each Individual American citizen who is fed up with the status quo.

Bring the troops home now! Stop the bleeding of American cash overseas! With what we spent in Iraq over the last 5 1/2 years, we could have accomplished so much more at home! Withdraw from the U.N. and tell them they've got 30 days to clear out of Manhattan! I got a call from one of the snipers (Army, 1st Infintry Div) in my family from Iraq this past weekend and he can't wait until his 9 months are up and he can either go back to Germany or come home to AZ. See they sleep and eat and kill in this country that they HATE, his words not mine. I have 8 younger family members fighting this war as I type these words and about 4 close friends and they all want to leave right now! I also coach youth football and 4 of my players have Father's and 3 more have brothers fighting this war and whenever they come to our games or football practices I make it a point to honor all of them and to spend time talking to them and NOT A SINGLE 1 OF THEM WANT TO BE IN IRAQ! So, I'll put my word against yours and I will assure you that 8 out of EVERY 10 of the men & women I know, want to get the hell out of there. But you want to keep them there while you sit home and play on your computer! I'm from a deep Military Family & we've been fighting for the USA in every war since my great-grandfather & his brother-in-law were some of the 1st Black men to serve and fight during WWII. So please don't disrespect all of the active duty men & women as well as all of the vets that have fought for this country with your NEO-CON views! Take your azz over there and fight since you want us to stay in this war, that shouldn't have ever been started! Would that mean then, that we would have to pull the US Gov'mt out of Detroit? I think that if the Liberals and Liberal Media in this country focused on the current murder rate in inner cities nation wide, or drunk driving deaths, or rapes, or black on black violence, they would find that WE IN THIS COUNTRY are in more of a crisis than Iraq. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to leave there too, but when we could be sure that the radical Islamist Terrorists like Al Q'ieda wouldn't destabilize the country and send it into chaos. I just wish I would see the same energy and passion from those on the left to fix the problems in thier own back yard. They only seem to get excited when it can be blamed on Pres Bush or republicans. Since most all the big cities are run by Democratic machines, we here little of thier problems.

For example: Hurricane Ike was horribly devistating to the Texas coast and to Gaveleston and Houston and surrounding areas. What was missing was a Democrat Mayor and Governer blaming it on the Feds. The devistation was worse for many communities then what happened in New Orleans, but where are the celebities and the Blame Bush media? Where are the finger pointers and the endless news coverage of why George Bush hates Blacks or Hispanics or Rural Whites?, Because there are no people in the devistated areas who are constantly told they are victims and that they are helpless. They are all helping each other and getting up off thier buts and taking care of themselves as much if not more than what the Government could be doing. Yet right now, this second, there are still hundreds if not thousands still in FEMA supplied housing from Kitrina! Those people are actually HURTING the rest of the country's ability to aid in another Ike or Rita or Katrinina by bing LOADS on the system. They are not learning from Texas, they are being good Democrat voters and staying VICTIMS and sources of endless news stories of the failures of George Bushes governement.

WAKE THE HELL UP PEOPLE!! The Democratic Party has been hijacked by communists, Marxists, anarchists, socialists, and mental defectives. It has been going on for a long long time. At it's core though are the same type of currupt politicos they claim to oppose. Taking money from currupt unions, foriegn governments, and elements of society who wish the USA harm. I WAS a Massachusettes (sp?) Democrat a long time ago, then I saw the UAW force my dads auto assembly plant to close in Framingham and the UAW and AFL-CIO drive the American manufacturing supremicy overseas because of greed and corruption.
I am in a Union myself today, but I do not ever vote how they tell me, nor do I support who they want me too. Uniions have a small core which is good, surrounded by a large rotten exterior.
Crap, I am so upset I am rambling, you get the gist. Just never base a policy or viewpoint from one slanted input. Look, Listen, Analyze, Research, Verify! Trust no one with an agenda, right or left, but verify the story independantly. The purpose of Government is to provide it's people security and freedom to live out thier lives free from fear or worry about hostile powers foriegn or domestic. Free to pursue happiness. Happiness itself is not guarunteed.

The only other way to provide the securty that President Bush has attmpted to do with the Democritization of Iraq, would be to kill everyone in that part of the world. I find that unacceptible and morally incomprehensible, but more favorable than if they were doing that to us, so I think this current course is the best comprimise he had.

For weary Iraqis, U.S election smells of ‘honey promises’

Its like the old saying goes everybody wants to complain about the weather, but nobody wants to do anything about it.We are complaining about the loss jobs that went over seas, Who passed the law to let them go over there to begin with? As someone connected directly with soldiers in Iraq -- it is nothing short of amazing how lives have been improved. Why are there so many global whiners?

Nate, you are "connected" with soldiers in Iraq? In other words, we should question the source of your knowledge, as you have never even been there!

I was a psychological operations soldier, and when I was there trying to win hearts and minds, I found most Iraqi's were indeed glad to be rid of Saddam. However, most said there living conditions had gotten worse, as typically happens in a WAR ZONE!

With the problems facing us at home, it's time to set a date and withdraw. We got into this war because of lies and fearmongering. It's sad, but Iraq was more stable with Saddam at the helm. We need to focus on our own problems. While I'm glad Saddam no longer oppresses them, the Iraqis need to assume respnsibility for themselves. If they want a democracy, they need to fight for it. Our presence there simply makes many of them feel that voting is pointless. Obviously, their opinions are myriad and varied, but I agree with them on one thing: the upcoming election is a false dilemma - faces may change, but nothing else will!

For weary Iraqis, U.S election smells of ‘honey promises’

Well what? Fox news!!! Of course, well, allow me to suggest reading a BOOK, or several for that matter, and actually Educate yourselves on the the unbelieveable horrifying travesties these people have endured for the last umpteen years under multiple "governments" and see how you'd be feeling right about now. & don, you really honestly believe these poor people (our "nabors" - lol), are just standing around hoping for "big government rations" because they don't want to work?!!! perhaps it's because there are no JOBS (which even an obvious semi-literate like you would realize equals No Money which equals No Food, etc. etc.). or just maybe it's because they risk getting shot down in the street just for being outside? humm.... As for all of our Children Whom We Sent to Die coming back singing the praises of this filthy money war, several friends who've returned with many stories (though oddly few videos), would beg to differ, including how their ability to Speak the Truth was "curtailed" (no, not Top Secret stuff), obviously to keep the aforementioned Truth from getting out (which it didn't thanks to our Conservative Corporate Money-Loving press - for the most part.) But what angers me off more than anything is all the MORONS out there who continue to support something/one that/who hasn't done ANYONE any real honest good just because they're too stupid and greedy themselves to turn the damn channel! well, when we're all broke & dying from cancer (or any number of diseases many of us don't have the insurance to cure), or when you try to retire and realize you don't have enough to live on and cry cuz your Social Security check is too small to eat And live indoors, or when you're forced to go into a retirement home and find out you have to get rid of everything you have to qualify for Medicare (aka Spending Down), because your life savings ain't what you thought it was, i can't wait to hear all your complaining about the "evils of big government" (that could have done something for you if you werent' such a schmuck), and how kool it was we blew the crap of thousands of innocent people and accomplished nothing more than making a lot of already wealthy people richer than even they ever imagined. i'm pretty sure you won't be blaming yourselves for being too Lazy and not standing "on your own two feet" (assuming you have two feet.) I sure your grandchildren will enjoy your legacy. The radical elements of Islam are no longer destroying other Iraqis like they were some time in the past. Their ouster is directly related to the effective Surge he recommended .
I do agree that the Media is so Liberal biased for they have stopped Reporting the NEWS in favor of creating it to suit their own beliefs.
It angers me when they say that Iraq (Sadam) had no weapons of mass destruction--maybe it's because he used the Chemical one to kill thousands of Kurds--the mass grave just recently uncovered. Also, not too long ago, there was an entire shipload of "Yellow Cake" transported from Iraq to a Canadian Province for use in creating Power at their Nuclear plant. This material can be used to create Bombs for use in missle warheads etc. A stable and Friendly Iraq can be a stableizing force in a turbulent Islamic area.
I surely would trust Senator McCain to handle the Pakistan/Kurdistan problems we are now involved in.
I believe his guidance would result in eliminating Osama Binladen as well. Whata liberal or conservative has anything to do with lies, death, opression, destruction which is Iraq? first of all the news in Iraq are much worse that the USA media tells us. There are thousand of journalists in Iraq, but we never hear their opinion here in the USA. I never saw one Iraqi journalist in the American TV, I wonder why. First of all the USA destroyed the country of Iraq and did not fix it. The surge is a joke. It's not because the increase of the troops, it decreased the violence it's because we are paying former sunny enemies of us to stop attacking american troops. Al sadr decided to stop attacking for political interest and in exchange we would not attack or arrest their criminal members who killed many american soldiers. How low can we go to say this is victory and democracy? ask McCain. Having electricity, water and schools are no favor to a country like Iraq, they always had this much more before we destroyed them. How about the refugees? The Iraqi middle class that decide to leave Iraqi otherwise their would be killed.ah the eveil Iran and Syria received more refuggees than the USA. I wonder if McCain or any other american can walk in the streets of Bagadad freely, withoust bullef proof, guards and etc.Maybe McCain can give some conference in any institutuion of Bagdad freely for a big audience. By the way Bush, Condoleeza Rice, congressmen and senators that claimed having many times to Iraq it's not true. They went to the green zone. The green zone is not Iraq is a military fortress that does not belong the Iraqis but the USA. 4 explosions a day 10 attacks per day is not a victory is stil a tragedy. Also how Ironic the puppet government of Iraq is totally alied with our evil enemy Iran. We hate Iran we acuse them of everything killing our soldiers, but the prime minister and president go back and forth to Iran and are welcomed with kisses and hugs and it's ok.

For weary Iraqis, U.S election smells of ‘honey promises’

Only proves once again that people come and go - individuals do not matter and are exchangeable. Life better under Saddam? Pull your head out of your liberal posterior!

War sucks! Does this come as a shock to anyone? Of course I would be angry if my family had been the victims of collateral damage, and I might even feel subjective enough to blame or even hate the US, regardless of its perceived intentions. I'd be entitled to feel this way. But the reality is that collateral damage has been one of the unfortunate side effects of every war in history. It would do us well to remember that many of the innocent civilian lives lost in Iraq were taken by Iraqi insurgents. You know, those people our soldiers are fighting over there.

And by the way, no matter how it stings to hear it, our guys are winning. Oh, how bitter it must have been to hear those words, "The surge is working." U.S. casualties DOWN, despite liberal prognostications of dismal failure.

Yes, we could've stayed put and let Saddam thumb his nose at the whole world five years ago. (Let's see... How many times was it, again, that the U.N. demanded to be allowed into Iraq to carry on inspections and ensure that all WMD's were destroyed or dismantled? How many meaningless ultimatums were issued? How many times did Saddam refuse to comply?) We could've done that. Maybe we should've. Perhaps we should've allowed Iraq to remain the festering terrorist state it was under Saddam.

If that's your opinion, then I have good news for you: There's still time! All we have to do is to pull out today and watch all of the sacrifice of Americans, Iraqis, British, etc. come to naught as the country collapses into a wasteland of sectarian violence, anarchy, and despair. Then Al Qaeda will rise up like a glorious phoenix from the ashes to wreak havoc on the "infidels" once again.

For weary Iraqis, U.S election smells of ‘honey promises’

Heres an idea! Saddam and his son were going around just raping anyone they want. I heard that his son pulled a woman away from her husband and raped her. Why would any country or any person even those living in Iraq not stand up to stop that. If the leader of America did that the American people would be all over him. Now, the people there must stand up to do what is right and treat each other with equal and loving committment then there would be no need for us to be there. I wish we would have stop what Saddam did to his own people long ago. People say there wasn't any weapons in Iraq but I know for a fact there was at one time and they are either are still there or they went to Syria. Any body sayin different doesn't have a lick of horse sense. There is nothin more disgusting than a whiner that's living in a Blessed situation. We face real threats in the world. Don't give me this blood for oil thing. While he's doing that, he wants to give Iraq to al Qaeda, Afghanistan to the Taliban, Israel to the Palestinians. Obama also thinks it's okay for Iran to have nuclear weapons, and we should stop our foreign aid to Israel . Reading the title, you would assume that the reporter had rounded up all the Iraqis and polled them.

I laugh at the folks that think any country in the mid east, is aligning with Iran. Iran, is like the bully in school that nobody likes. I would like to think Iranians dont even like Iran. Now if you would have used Pakistan as an example I would agree.

Total time I have spent in Iraq has been well over two years, I will say that from my experience people are still happy we are there. I have met a few people who said things would be better without us there. To them I offered the following advice: "If you want us to leave, take a break from killing each other for a little while. Put your problems on a hiatous, make us think everything is fine. Once we are out, you can go back to killing each other again. I really dont see why you guys havent figured that out yet." It seems that they have started taking my advice.

Isolationism doesnt work. We tried that once. We can not just mind our own buisness, and stay out of other peoples affairs. It has proven not to work.

Also, remember before throwing the term warmonger out there, the democrats are responsible for wars with the most American causlties. Yes, the toll in Iraq has topped 3000. Yes that is a big number. But think we've been there for over 5 years. We lost more than 3000 on D-Day. If you think the media isnt liberal, take the wool off your eyes. Open up and see, that you never see the good things soldiers do. You dont hear about us rebuilding schools, giving school supplies, doing medical exams, providing health care to everyone we can, giving iraqis prosthetics, hell you dont hear how American troops used to get attack while trying to finish up a school building. I cant count the number of times we got shot at working on a school, while kids were inside.

For weary Iraqis, U.S election smells of ‘honey promises’

Why is it that whenever someone is in trouble, they immediately want to know what it is that America is going to do to help them? While the U.S. economy tanks and people here lose their houses and dreams...and politicians try to blame it all on the housing crisis, no one mentions the costs of the Iraq adventure to the U.S. taxpayer. McCain talks about spending MORE on military. Well, politicians can cut every good program in this country that helps average folk, but we still will NEVER have enough money to make this economy healthy again IF we don't STOP this military madness ! We cannot sustain our military adventures all over the world and still have our economy thrive. WAKE UP PEOPLE ! The U.S. needs to become a good WORLD citizen. We need politicians that understand that they need to SERVE the citizens of this country and not the corporate masters...corporations are NOT patriotic, they serve only themselves and their shareholders. Wake up, America...before we have nothing left in this country. And to all you conservative Christians who think that the entire world revolves around the issues of abortion and gay rights...wake up and realize these are issues of faith that can NEVER be settled by politicians and laws. Keep those issues in your homes, hearts, and churches - not in the halls of congress. There are MUCH more important issues to settle in this country. I hope you realize that your crap sounds EXACTLY like Osama Bin Laden...you are both two "peas in a pod." He too blames hurricanes and disasters on God's retribution for the sins of people. When you have lost your homes due to the mortgage crisis, your 401K due to the banking crisis, your jobs due to the bad economy, and your sons due to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan...remember, I am sure it was all God's plan and was due to the fact that YOU are a sinner (it has nothing to do with greedy corporations, corrupt politicians, self-serving churches, and ignorant voters). Wake up, please.

For weary Iraqis, U.S election smells of ‘honey promises’

Dave (in Rochester, Michigan),

What is it like to have such a blind faith in a political party that you can honestly think we are doing well as a country? I saw this when Palin was nominated as well as have to ask someone who practices this "skill" how easy or hard it may be.

The truth is, the die-hard Republicans in this country will take any piece of ^%#! information, person, program, or scenario and back it because a Republican put it forward. When NPR is doing interviews during the RNC and a Methodist minister's wife is saying that Palin's daughter's issue is not a problem, that is a prime example of a sell-out. When Carl Rove can gripe about Obama considering Bill Bolling as a potential VP earlier this year on the basis that he has no experience and was only the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, but then say Palin is perfect as a previous mayor of Wasilla, AK, that is the prime example of a sell-out. Do you realize just how corrupt this current administration is? Further, they compound the corruption with the assumption that the American people are complete dolts and will never see what a bunch of self-serving criminals they are.

Here's something new and exciting for you; take your Republican blinders off, reverse your cranial-rectal inversion, and think for yourself; the people you idolize and blindly follow really don't care about you...
For weary Iraqis, U.S election smells of ‘honey promises’

i find these articles rather humorous myself.... but the iraqis want and expect everything to be handed to them... there lazy... we won't see a significate change until the next generation takes over because everyone else is stuck on yesterday... where far more people died each day...also you have to realize it's just a couple peoples personal opinions. i talk to many iraqis on a regular basis and many are very happy but saying this they also need to hear a plan and work on supporting themselves so it doesn't just turn right back around... and remember sometimes what the majority wants isn't always the right thing... these people need help.

For weary Iraqis, U.S election smells of ‘honey promises’

Well, in that short video there was a lady who said that they now don't have electricity, the water is dirty, the sewage system is a mess, and now they have cholera. And you wonder why they are upset? One statement that i have to say is well you would never have the chance to stand up for yourself freely and say you hate the help you have or say that you wish we were not there. You actually have the choose to stand up for yourself. I guess give you the freedom of speach and the freedom to be who you want to be is not really what they wanted just someone to give them handouts just like all those people sitting on welfare here in the US stating that they are owed something. Not only do they pay income tax, they are also taxed yearly on "luxury" items such as t.v.s, cars, boats, etc.) Also, we support a little boy in Kenya who is so poor that he was thrilled when he received a new pair of shoes and some food for Christmas.

As to Iraq, they were thrilled when we first came, but like so many other people, they wanted freedom without all of the cost that comes with it. Everyone likes to think that freedom should come with very little sacrifice. Just look at our own history & see what it cost us to be free.

As far as those that see Saddam as just being an annoying dictator. Tell that to those who were put through wood chippers while still alive; those who had gasoline poured down their mouths and all over their bodies and were lit on fire; the many women who were taken on their wedding nights (from their grooms) and raped by Saddam's sons & soldiers; the people who were found buried in pits with many others.

Also, stop blaming Bush for everything. Congress also voted for the war, and they were given all of the intell. that Bush had to make that decision. Not only that, Clinton, while still president, is on record as saying that "we know" that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction.
As far as the economy goes, the current banking problem began when in 1999 the banking industry was deregulated, making it possible for all of these bad loans. Bush did not force people to buy homes they couldn't afford, or to get overblown home equity loans so people could do home improvement or take vacations. We gambled and made those choices. Well, we lost that gamble.

As far as Iraq, we should make them start paying us back out of their fast financial reserves, and if they are unwilling to do so, we should pull out. I think they'll see the light, since they know that if we pull out too soon, they will either have a massive civil war or they will be overrun by Iran.

For weary Iraqis, U.S election smells of ‘honey promises’

Michael G. If this means pissing off petty little governments and little old you than too damn bad. The freedoms you enjoy did not come easy or without bloodshed. You take it for granted and dont believe that any one else on the planet is entiltled to it. History has problably left out how ruthless our dictatorship was under England when we declared independance, but it still sounds less harsh that what other societys are living under. They want us out, lets go, maybe when next country takes them over we will be able to see who is the friend and who is foe. They want freedom then fight for it yourself like the US did.

As far as election, Obama needs to get a clue. His ideals will kill this country like we have not seen for almost 100 years. I for one do not want a national health care. I pay for my insurance, and if I need surgery I get it. Nobody ever said living in this country was free; it is the land of the free. Get off your butts, get an education, and pay for what you want like the honest hard working people do. Give, give, give, take, take, take is all we hear today, I for one am tired of paying so people can sit on their butts and collect a check from the government and pop out kids and look for someone to pay for it.
