If they like being under the thumb of Putin (and they still are!), good for them. The fact is, they don't have the freedom to vote like we do, so they can say what they want about our elections, but they'll never share that freedom. There are way more important issues to consider than just what either Obama or McCain thinks or feels about Russia, though Russia certainly is an important issue to deal with (moreso than many are willing to believe now after the Cold War is over). Time will tell as far as whether Russia will be a significant threat again. Time will also tell whether Obama or McCain will be our next President, but the Russians won't have any hand in that choice!

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

WHO CAREs ABOUT THE OPINIONS OF COMMUNIST. Naturally the Russioans are program by now to favor Obama. Cause they want a weak US President like Obama. So that Russia will be able to kick and stump the USA all they want just like the weakling Jimmy Carter. And raise the oil price back to $150 or $200 per barrel. And Russia will also use threats and blackmails against EU by controlling the Natural Gas pipeline spigot flowing to EU. Just like it did on Ukraine and Belorussia last winter. The question is are we going to let Russia be a bully under a weakling appeaser defeatist Obama presidency. The reality is Russia has nothing to sell to the World except Natural Gas and Oil. So Russia will be the Bogeyman to the World Economy, World security and Stability by supporting rogue countries like Iran. So the price of Oil wil remain high.

Yes Russia wants Obama to win because Obama is weak. So Russia unstoppable can do what ever they want. And Russia do not want McCain to win. Because McCain carry a Big Stick. And is strong on Security and Stability around the world. There are so many bad, evil, rogue countries out there today. Obama's appeasements and defeatism is a danger to world peace just like Neville Chamberlain and Jimmy Carter. History teaches us that in a dangerous World we need a strong leader.

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

Russia is losing its western population by almost 2% a year due to Alcohol, 50% abortion to birth rate and no western immigration. They also can't protect their borders from the Chinese that are moving into Siberia through Mongolia. Russia is a dying country that has a 40% Muslim ranked armed forces. They have about 33% of the Nuclear warheads on Earth. Russia's future is very scary for the world.
America should get with Russia to build the International Peace Bridge-Tunnel from Alaska to Siberia. We should also help them to rebuild their rail service to fit ours so they will become a better Democracy through trade and tourism.

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

It's time to get rid of the repugnant ones who have done nothing but antagonize the Russians rather than befriend them. It's a pity that after Clinton was trying to get Russia into NATO along comes belligerent Bush who has done everything to push Russia out of NATO and into becoming a new foe. We don't need another stinking Cold War, well the repugnant ones do because they have to use fear and smear to jazz up their voter base.

Time to stop antagonizing Russia and to start getting them back to being our friends as they should be. Is it any wonder that Russians support a more belligerent government when our country has had a more beliigerent government for 8 years?

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

Chas. The comments were the views of ordinary folks like most of us. The haters are being a bit over the top with their comments.

I don't forsee Obama as being weak on world affairs.
I see Obama being very similar to Teddy Roosevelt as he would walk softly but will carry a big stick. He's made it clear that not only will he rebuild our military but he will make it stronger. Our stick is broken and we're not in an ideal posititon of military strength right now. If push had come to shove in the Georgia crisis, we could not have stood up to Russia if we wanted to despite our tough talk and Putin knows it.

Republicans have either forgotten or don't realize that probably the best President at quiet diplomacy was Bush senior, whose decision not to invade Iraq after the first Gulf War turned out to be the right one. It was Reagan who stated " A nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought." Bluffing the soviets with his mock star wars project that was the final blow to bring down the walls of communism was a brilliant piece of diplomacy by Reagan.

Don't mistake diplomacy for weakness and stupidity for strength.

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

The Russians prefer Obama due to his willingnes to be a part of our world community, instead of McCain who makes fun of those who are trying to heal the damage to relations done by the Bush administration.
In Russia, Obama beats McCain

Interesting that the media wants to know what Russians think about our election and who Russians want to install as our president. Afganistan was correct, Iraq was wrong. Capitalism works great with some regulation. You remove all regulation and we now have the mess we see...

The biggest threat to this country long term is the national deficit. It currently stands at 9.6 trillion dollars. The math is simple.

The current neo-right wing Republicans want this election about God, Gays and Guns. Make it a cultural election, because their policies have failed spectacularly. Where are the real Republicans? Those that believed in the separation of church and state? Those American free-marketers who advised Yeltsin on how to handle the economy were held responsible by the Russian people for the horrific mess that they had to endure, with the collapse of one system and the unregulated rise of "free-market capitalism." It truly was horrific - like the Great Depression for the average man in the street. What we are experiencing here in the U.S. today is the result of deregulation (i.e. free-market capitalism) and the American people's unwillingness to learn from other's mistakes. The last thing we need in charge is leaders ignorant of other cultures around the world. I'm ecstatic that we have a chance to vote for "an elitist" - i.e., the best. (look up the definition of "elite" if you doubt me. Another 4 years of embarrasingly ignorant leaders (McCain/ Palin) shooting from the hip will do enormous damage to America. If we pass up this opportunity to replace a numbskull with an egghead, the world will surely turn its collective back on us. And diminished respect *always* has a negative effect on the one who is disrespected. America is skating on the edge now; please, people, read both sides of the issue, read analyses, read about other cultures, before you vote!

Obama/Biden '08
In Russia, Obama beats McCain

Americans are so lame when it comes to Russians. So the fact that Russians like Sen. Obama is a huge asset in resolving issues with Russia.
And that's what we want to do, resolve conflicts, not look tough and keep fighting.

This notion runs right into Sen. McCain's mocking of Sen. Obama, his calling of Sen. Obama the world's biggest celebrity. Seeing as George W. Bush lost all the credibilty America so long enjoyed, we must have a president who is internationally popular.

The fact that one needs good relations to resolve problems is something we all learned in second grade. The show personalizes the army and we only have to look at how many young men were anxious to go fight in Georgia to see how effective the series is. Putin is riding a high in popularity while our president is not enjoying such popularity. So my advice to readers is to understand how ready their country is to go to war and how sincere they are in their own individual humanity. Their thinking has been altered in more ways other than TV and it all fits into a master plan that Putin is engineering. No matter what you think of him, the guy's a master at what he does and his voters will follow him to a much greater degree than what we will follow our own leaders.

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

I don't understand why everyone thinks Obama = communism? Of course this article will enforce that arguement for those with that point of you, and that's sad. It's not "Un-american" to be a democrat or to want to vote for Obama and it's short sited and obtuse to think that it is. No matter who wins the election, American foreign policy towards aggressors will change little. Do you really think that the president of the USA (democrat or republican) will ever just let Russia "walk all over us"? Get real! That will never happen and it's just common republican fear mongering and paranoia to think that that's what'll happen if Obama is elected.

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

Who cares what the Russians think. For that matter, who cares what you globalists think. At least they could have chosen someone that beleves in what America stands for and not for whatever some other countries may think about America.

Change that weakens our defense, change that weakens our right as individuals to defend ouselves, and change that takes money (taxes) from hard working people and gives to those who are too lazy to work so that they have equal opportunity for health care and higher education (socialism). Hmmm....Why wouldn't the Russians think Obama and his "Change" would be the best, it is what they know as normal. It is not the United States of America though.

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

People, people you know not what you read or talk about. Remember that one of our freedoms is freedom of speech and press. So if a Russian, Chinese or Italian communist (yes the Italian Government has Socialist Democratic party members in their Government) person wants to speak their mind, lets be kind and let them. They're not voting, but just voicing an opinion. Now did you know that there are Russians and Ukrainians working in the US to help launch commercial satellites such as Direct TV, XM Radio, etc. As part of the SALT treaty we are buying their rockets and boosters to launch our commercial satellites. How many of you know this? So what would you rather have, a war monger in the White House who wants to "bury those Russian Commies" and have perhaps another cold war or other confrontation? or, Would you raher have someone in the White House who can deal with Russia through "tough" diplomacy. By the way, why don't all of you find out how many US Government Federal workers are in Russia helping them straighten out their bankning system. Also, in 2014 Russia will be hosting the World Cup. Do you think there won't be any capitalism going on during those games? Think again before you make a statement against Russia. Also think about the statements that were made against China prior to the summer olympic games. And I agree with Tom Kaye that many Russians like are regular people. How do I know? I went to several meetings in Moscow and was treated by the Russian people that I met both professionals and regular citizens with warmth, kindness and hospitality. It has not worked and we are in two wars nearly alone in our efforts because of bully tactics. Bush and McCain are not respected because they don´t respect. Being respected by nations comes when the they believe you deal honestly even if you are willing to respond with agression at the ultimate moment. Bush and McCain are seen as those who act and then think. We do not need another Bush in McCain who will make his ¨gut¨decisions. I want a president who reasons, proposes, negotiates, and is clear that we have limits. The world is not the Jerry Springer show. It´s real life and has consequences that are serious. The memories of the Great Patriot War (known in the US as World War II) are very relevant even now. I read and think about this election a lot. I am convinced that Obama will be MUCH better for this graet country.
I wish more people really took time to LEARN about other countries (including Russia) before they make comments here, and, more importantly, decide whom to vote for. The G8 group is a direct result of GB´s world view. It was also under Nixon that we negotiated with the Chineese in Paris to end the war in Vietnam. It is the Bush family that has long ties with the middle east and the oil industry there. They have been long-life friends with the Saudi Royalty - the same Royalty that produced Osama Ben L. It was during Republican control that we increased the supply of arms to Osama to fight against the Russians and destabilized the government of Afganistan. Republicans should look no farther than their own party leaders of the last 30 years to find those most connected with the Russians, the Chineese, Osama, and the Saudi Royalty and others who gave him cover. Additionally, look to Reagan for the connections to South American dictators who murdered many of their fellow countrymen and ignored the increasingly strong drug cartels. In fact, at some points the USA under Reagan supported Drug cartels in the effort to undermine lawfully elected governments who wanted the USA to stop supporting these dictators and Drug Cartels. Has our country really digressed to the point of "us versus them damn Russkies?" that was preached decades ago.

The reality is that we now live in a global society, Witness the need for foreign banks to step in to try to save the wrecked US financial system from complete collapse. Of course the Russian people cannot vote ina US election. But I, for one am interested in how the US and its leaders would be able to function in a global and international diplomatic setting. Bush has obviously failed miserably. Tthe perception of Mccain is that he would not do much better with his swagger and gunboat style of diplomacy.

As long as one has the limited capacity to only view the world in terms of "good guys [we are always right] and bad guys [they are always wrong]," there will never be any real progress in terms of world peace or economic stability and growth.

Bill Clinton predicted that Bush would fail in international relations because "we cannot kill enemies as fast as we can make them." GWB has proven that prophecy correct. Russia is not only the enemy of the USA, Russia is the enemy of the entire free world. The recent invasion of Georgia by Russia had been in the planning stages for more than two years and Vladimir Putin waited for just the right moment to launch the attack. His aim was to unsettle Western Europe enough that it would turn its back on its greatest ally, the USA. He played his cards exactly right and that is what has happened. He has demanded that NATO deny entry to Georgia, or he will cut off the oil and gas supply to Western Europe. The two most powerful NATO members, Germany and France have demanded that the United States withdraw its support for Georgia's admission to NATO.

If we elect Senator Obama as our next president, the Russians have won everything. She has defeated Western Europe with the threat of cutting off its energy and if we elect someone as inexperienced as Senator Obama, she will know that there is no more opposition worth worrying about. Russia will begin to retake the small neighboring countries in order to rebuild the Soviet Empire and once this is done, Russia will move west, unopposed to whatever point she wants to move to.

You should think long and hard about the consequences of electing such a novice to lead the greatest nation on this planet.

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

Of course the Russian people prefer Obama, They get their information from a dishonest, government controlled media. Bell, Melbourne, FL

The chasm between McCain supporters and those supporting Obama is crystallized in this thread; McCain is a military man and knows only of war, and Obama is a proponent of peace, dialog and negotiation. Condemning Russia for its military action in Georgia while not considering our actions in Iraq (and other countries) is pathetically shortsighted. Dr. Ron Paul had it right…get out of Iraq (in fact, get out of everywhere we have a military installation), be friends to all, trade with all, but align with no one. This same sentiment was held by the Founding Fathers as well, and is what made America great. Now, because of the war and the mismanagement of the US Dollar (by the FED), we face a situation not unlike the Great Depression and WWII combined.

More sobering, only 16% of the voters are for McCain and about the same for Obama. That means only 32% of all the voters in America will make a decision on who will have the top office in the Land. And, again how pathetic…we will be voting for the “lesser of two evils”. What a shame that is. Does this subject light up the boards or what? I ESPECIALLY CHUCKLE AT THOSE ALL CAPS POSTS!!!! And the misspellings - well, let's just say that extremists were never known for a good command of any language including their native tongue...

Trying to change the opinions and behavior of other people is futile. You'll never sway an extremist by typing a few words on this, or any other, blog. Won't happen.

One logical point that seems to bubble up is that America can't afford to continue the crude fundamentalist foreign policies of the last 8 years any more. We're not so morally superior that we can demand the rest of the word live and die by our own standards. Flag waving, saber-rattling and isolationist, ignorant behavior won't make the world a safer place. The issues go far beyond what Russians think of our country or what we think of their country...

We are not gods, nor God. We won't solve every confrontation with military force. It might be wise to listen more and preach less, using rational dialog and not blustering blindly. A dollop of self-examination and a bit more humility so we can navigate an ever-changing and complex international political environment more successfully than we have in recent years.

So sure, It's interesting to hear about which party Russian citizens would vote for, but I'm more concerned what party YOU'RE going to vote for.

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

All in all, I thought this article was an interesting little snap-shot from one corner of the world. Nothing that I'll base my vote upon of course, but interesting to take into account none the less. What I found to be even more interesting was that most of the pro-McCain comments on this article come from folks located in the interior states (land-locked) and those that were pro-Obama tended to be from coastal areas. Since most foreign visitors (and immigrants) generally arrive and spend time along the coasts of our country (of course this does not include most visiting Canadians, Mexicans and Central Americans, and some others do travel inland), and it's easier for American's on the coasts to travel abroad to Europe, Africa and Asia (lower airfares, more flight routes, etc., do people on the coasts tend to have more exposure to people from other nations and cultures? Obviously there are distinct differences in political/social/idealogical beliefs within our country that have a connection to our voter's geography. As an independent voter from Boston, I find that I don't get too worked up over what people in Russia think about our elections. I do think it's undeniably telling that the rest of the world is so interested in the outcome of our final choice though. Personally, I believe that (short of Al Quaida... obviously!, and possibly Iran) the world community doesn't want to see misfortune come to the United States, they just want to find their way to the same type of success we've created. The world economy is directly dependant on the U.S.' ability to manage ourselves, our money, much of their money and most importantly on our ability to continue consuming what they produce. A weak, financially crippled America does not have spending power and our spending is what keeps the wheels turning around the world. We're feisty folks here, full of opinions on even the smallest matters, do you really think, regardless of who is elected, that our nation would ever let anyone steamroll over us? Heck, the fact is, we're the one's that have had the rest of the world hoping we wouldn't roll them over the past 60+ years! No wonder they all care about who we put in charge of this giant paving machine! They want to make sure someone qualified is at the healm so the little bits of success they're creating don't get squashed should we fall down! People out there still look up to us and they want to feel like the world superpower still represents fair leadership and opportunity for all.

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

There world tires of hegemony. Can we move in to the 21st century, please?

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

Hey, we are just as bad if not worse than Russia, we are not a democratic country any more. I have read all the comments keenly and have concluded one thing: Most McCain supporters are poeple with little foreign knowledge and depend on the US government to build their opinions about other countries. It seems that they are not independent minded and would go for anything that Bush or McCain or even Palin, suggests to them and take it to be absolute truth. Remember that the media in this country is very partisan and you should not just take what they tell you to be the truth. Obama supporters seem to know forein affairs pretty well. I won't be surprised if most of Obama supporters have travelled abroad while McCain's have not. Please try to understand international affairs before you go "barking" on this blog! The most stupid move in this crisis was made by Georgia. How do you a rabbit provoke a pitbull without expecting severe consequences? Georgia lacks leadership. This about it, if Georgians had killed 10 Americans like they did Russians, Georgia would be smoking right now! This is a fact. I am American, a Republican and I know American needs Obama right now. Go Obama/Biden

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

What a collection of foolish comments from McCain supporters. Russian public oppinion = McCain is best? Who controls your mind? You seem to equate macho with strength. Truth is your "macho" Bush has made the world more dangerous.
In Russia, Obama beats McCain

It's amazing how similar most of you guys sound here. So hostile towards Russia and in a way brainwashed. You are ready to trust the lame duck in the White House who lied to you on a number of occasions and lied to the entire world as well. What makes you think that he is telling you the truth now? Weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? I bet his is still seaching for them there. When it comes to Georgia and it's crazy president, if any of you think that Russia is going to tolerate US and its allies in its backyard, you are wrong!!! Same as US will never agree to Russian missles in Cuba, Mexico or Canada. Bush Jr. destroyed everything three presidents before him, including his dad, achieved in building relationship with Russia. I am personally sadden by this fact, but I can't help it.
When it comes to the next US president, Russians care about it as much as Americans care about Putin and that's the reason the % of those who don't care who will be elected as the next president is twice higher than % of those who support Obama. There is nothing wrong with making surveys like this one in Russia, they do it in Canada even though Canadians don't vote in US elections. Yet most of you wouldn't jump if this article was about Canada. And yes, Canadians favor Obama. And here comes the issue of double standards...what can be done in Canada can't be done in Russia...what can be done in Kosovo can't be done in Georgia and the list goes on.
Some of you should really relax and take a deep breath. Russians don't want your coffee tables, they have their own. Even in their wildest dreams they do not see US as one of their autonomous republics.

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

There is a huge dichotomy between the Russian people and the Russian government. Here we have Sen. McCain, who is an man of age, 72 I believe with some medical issues right, If he should pass away in office and with all these things happening to the United States, I guess my question is, besides this question already floating around in the political media, but can Sarah Palin really handle all of this as president? I hear somewhat of McCain views are but unfortunately I haven’t heard anything clear on what Palin views are. Can we trust her to lead this country because I can’t see it? Can we afford for this to happen after all we have been through in the last 8 years? With all the bickering back and forth between the candidates, one of my concerns still lies with Palin. Sure there is a chance that McCain will live through his presidency but there is also a chance that he may not and that doesn’t make me feel good at all. Then to hear Palin say that if need be we will have war with Russia for Georgia, now since we all became "Georgians" which sorry to say I didn’t know much about them until all this happened between them and Russia, can we afford that too? Can America be at war for terrorism and fight a war with Russia which I am sure will have extreme cost, what are we to do if that happens? Can someone help me understand why this ticket is an asset for us Americans at all?

I believe it is time for a president to finally care about its people and the infrastructure within than abandon us constantly for foreign affairs! That is part of the job but NOT the ONLY job! We have been in war for 7 years now, when will it end?? Do we need more war?
We are AMERICA, We will NEVER BOW DOWN to any country but we DO NOT have to have a REPUBLICAN in office to express that message. Any American who is HONORED to be OUR PRESIDENT will never let us CRUMBLE under another country!!!! A strong leader thinks before speaking than speaking before thinking!
Don’t underestimate the power of intelligence than believing in the power of arrogant bullying!!!! We don’t need anymore enemies!!! If the typical American believes in the administration of bullying other countries to be the way we are, time will only tell when those countries will eventually get sick and tired of it and will want to gather up and fight us and who will we have to help us???? No one???!!!
THAT’S NOT THE AMERICAN WAY!!!

Barack Obama and Joe Biden for President and Vice President of the United States.

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

This article is of no relevemce at this time. One reason may be that the author is trying to turm away support for the Democratic Presidential nominee. In any case the outcome is pretty clear; those who let America down would fail on Nov.4th. Republicans would be swept aside. They are not worthy to speak for America any more after what they did over the last 8 years. And all those years Mr.McCain was playing the alter boy to Mr.Bush. Now he says he would change the course. He cannot do that and if he would do it, he was lying for over 30 years.

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

M. What if, perhaps, the Russians are human, and fear McCain b/c he is so limited by his temperment that the only options from a McCain administration would be capitulation or war. The Russians would be fearful of war, but know they can't be intimidated by the US- so a McCain presidency means a greater likelihood of war instead of a more intelligent, calm approach that a Democratic administration could offer. You can't just continue with a 20th century 'bully and intimidate' approach in a world where a bunch of countries can launch nuclear attacks. Why even maintain that limited point of view? If you can't see anothers issues you can't find a tolerable middle ground, so we can all live together. I feel the 'hater's who feel compelled to attack an Obama presidency are very fearful and unintelligent types that only see the world as one where there is only intimidation/dominance or defeat, and those options are inherently limited and self-destructive.

In Russia, Obama beats McCain

I understand what everyone is saying, but why are we going out and asking Russia who they would pick?
