Reading, seeing pictures - it's hard to imagine the loss of life (65,000 or more and thousands more missing) and distruction (some 400,000 homes). You see the people, their faces and realize it's taken a horrible disaster like this for many people to accept that these people are just like us.
The Chinese people have lived in a world pretty much cut off to the rest of the world - seeing this damage and suffering makes us just a little closer.
These people are now living in a world of real horror; without children, parents or other family members, without homes, without medicine, food or jobs - realizing they never had and may never have help or support from their government. It is sad to think what the future will be for these poor people. It is so disturbingly sad.

China poverty is different than American poverty. You will get mugged if you go to American slums such as New Orleans. Chinese will invite you in for their last bite of bread. Americans are too quick to deny their responsibilities and blame someone else for their problems. To the ignorant few who continue to look down upon "moronic" New Orleanians, Katrina was the first time in how many generations that the "city that shouldn't be rebuilt below sea water" actually flooded completely? If these recent natural tragedies prove anything is that we are all vulnerable to disaster. No area is actually safe. Why would people rebuild along the gulf coast when hurricanes knock their houses down repeatedly? Why would people in California rebuild when wildfires conquer miles of habiltable land? And what is the point of living anywhere when an earthquake can potentially occur for the first time in thousands or millions of years? There is a lesson to be learned here is that this earth is very fragile and mass disaster will occur. Our world is at war, it is these disastrous events that remind us the good of people and that.

The Chinese people need our help. Many parents have lost their only children. Whole commmunities have lost their homes, businesses, everything, and are now displaced. Major highways and roads are blocked or destroyed. Possible flooding will result from dams that are damaged, etc. Major health problems will result due to the impending rainy season. My son lives and works in southeast China and tells of the Chinese citizens banning together to help their fellow countrymen thru donations of money, etc. This is the most catastrophic thing that has happened in China. These people had no warning, the government and others in athority were not able to tell residents of impending danger. New Orleans was different. Let's be insane for a moment and buy into Stone's cynical way of thinking, the numbers put the "karma" squarely on the Tibetans.

The rescue efforts in China have been ehtnicity-blind, until Stone the idiot brought it up in such perverted way.

Stone claims Dalai Lama is a good friend of hers. That's probably true because the "holliness" might actually influenced her thinking. Now, let's wait and see how this man in saffran robe goes about ditching his used-to-be-sexy Hollywood friend.
