Arabs look for action from Obama

CAIRO – Egyptians are immensely proud that President Barack Obama has chosen Cairo University as the site for his speech addressing the world's 1.5 billion Muslims on Thursday. They see it as a gesture of respect, and an acknowledgement that their capital is the seat of Islamic-Arab culture.

Workmen cleaned the university's gates this week as students hurried across the manicured campus. Final exams are only days away, yet the talk was all about the American president's visit.

A veiled Egyptian vendor sells newspapers and magazines about President Barack Obama in Cairo on Wednesday, a day before his arrival to address the Muslim world in a speech.

Ingy Attallah, a 20-year-old business major, is one of about 300 students chosen to attend the speech along with politicians, business leaders and notables from all over the country.

"When they told me I could attend, I was very excited. I was one of Obama's biggest fans during his election campaign, and when he won I was very excited," she said.

And what would she like to hear in the speech?

"A specific plan of action on how he will deal with the conflicts in the Middle East, especially the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. And when he will get American troops out of Iraq," she said.

Mohammed Abu Shakka, a 19-year-old engineering student, also plans to attend the speech.

"We have high hopes for Barack Obama," he said. "But if he doesn't do anything – just talk – it will get people really disappointed."

Actions, not just words – that was the strongest common sentiment we encountered this week when asking people in Cairo what they would be listening for in Obama's speech.

Israel-Palestinian crisis the ‘main’ issue
At Al Azhar, for more than 1,000 years a seat of Islamic learning, foreign students studying to become imams were seated in rows chanting Koranic prayers the day our team visited.

Mohammed Noor, a 24-year-old Malaysian who has been studying here for four years, hopes Barack Obama will preach non-violence in his speech.

"I hope that he will make a good relationship with the Islamic world and not use force anymore," he said. "We will not see America as our enemy anymore if he does what he says he will do," he added.

Mohammed Fouad, a 22-year-old Egyptian student, wants the American president to address the Palestinian-Israeli issue. "It is the main and first issue of this region," he said.

Islamic students leave the al Azhar mosque in Cairo after midday Muslim prayers on Tuesday as they head to exams at the the chief center of Arabic literature and Sunni Islamic learning in the world.

‘We want to forget the past …We need America’
In Cairo's bustling streets there is a sense of anticipation that Obama's visit may also benefit the economy.

Hisham Al-Mugrabi runs a small restaurant serving the local version of fast food. Pausing between slicing strips of meat sizzling on a vertical grill in front of a gas-fed flame, he said he hopes the American president will somehow raise living standards in Egypt.

"We are expecting great changes and hope. God willing, he can do something to help our situation," he said.

In the city's coffee shops, where men gather most afternoons to sit and smoke water pipes, play cards and read newspapers, this week the talk was all about the visit of the American president.

Almost all of the people we spoke with agreed that he has to say something dramatic, something positive about the Islamic world and the role of Muslims.

"I would like to hear all the right things from Mr. Obama," said Ahmad Taha. "We want to forget the past, including Bush. We need America, the right America."

Media spin will matter
Many Egyptians will not hear Obama’s speech live, even though it will be broadcast on television and radio direct from Cairo University. They will depend on the media to interpret it for them later on evening television talk shows and in the morning newspapers.

Amr Adeeb hosts a three-hour TV show on the Orbit network, which is broadcast around the Middle East five nights a week. He said he'll be looking for answers to the most important questions his viewers ask.

"I need to see Iraq without American troops, I need to see Afghanistan without American troops, I need a final solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," he said.

But Adeeb, like many others in the largely conservative Egyptian media, said he will be giving Barack Obama the benefit of the doubt until he hears what the American president says and sees what he does in the future.

"He has a big responsibility in this speech," Adeeb said. "But it's not just words, but what do you have behind the words?  What's being cooked in the back kitchen?"

"Why should I tell my audience that the United States is a good friend and a good ally and that they are helping us?  They are cutting aid every day. They are not giving us the right weapons, they are not giving us the right tools to survive – although they are giving Israel everything," he said.

That perceived U.S. bias toward Israel is universally shared in the Islamic world. But many Muslims understand that America's relationship with the Jewish state has bonds that will not be strained or broken in one speech, so they are not expecting any major policy shift to be announced when Obama speaks to them from Cairo University.

They do, however, expect him to respect their point of view. And they hope he will at least offer a prescription for Palestinian statehood and a timetable for a rapid withdrawal of American troops from the region.

History has clearly shown appeasement does not work especially in that part of the world. As with any conflict, it takes two parties to engage in war. And both parties have to agree before fighting can end. It is not a war against, Egyptians, Saudi Arabians, or even Iraqies. It is not a war on Islam. This is a war against "radicals" who happen to call themselves "muslims". What type of dialogue can you have with a deranged mind who considers their victory to be the end of our way of life? How can you change the mind of someone who hates you because of who you are and no matter what you do or say, their hatred for you will remain? It is true, the US does have its faults. No nation is perfect, but history clearly shows, the United States has done far more good in the world than harm. Can the leaders of these countries say the same? Think on this.
American foreign policy has been the most self serving, industrially corrupt and short sighted it possibly could be. It’s been positively embarrassing to watch one intellectually challenged American leader after another fumble the ball.
WE created Osama Bin Laden to fight the Russians for us. Paid him a billion dollars, CIA trainers, weapons and then abandoned him and his men to the “tender mercies” of the Russian army when we did our back door deal with Russia… any surprise he hates us and our hypocrisies?
WE created, built, supported, trained, and outfitted Saddam Hussien, who then thought we’d not object to him “taking back” Kuwait. Little did he realize American leaders are a wholly owned subsidiary of the Saudi oil princes.
We have sat back and watched the Israeli’s treat the Palestinians like dogs, abusing and murdering them for decades before the whole Arab world rose up in revolt, and now they complain (sic). Ike, Churchill and Stalin agreed to a Palestinian state where the Israelis would have the own autonomous region… instead, with American backing, look what happened. Even now Israeli’s occupy what little, poor land the Palestinians have left while claiming pathetic un-aimed rocket attacks hurt them, while killing thousands of Palestinians regularly.

I won’t even mention the Suez, Vietnam, Granada, Chile etc. etc. etc.

We Americans have been blindly and dumbly stumbling around the world forcing our views, supporting our corrupt rapacious companies and supporting our own terrorists (we call Freedom Fighters) for 50 odd years.

And Americans (those ignorant of history) wonder why people of the world feel the way they do…

Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.  - Mark Twain
"Why should I tell my audience that the United States is a good friend and a good ally and that they are helping us?  They are cutting aid every day. They are not giving us the right weapons, they are not giving us the right tools to survive" . . .

Where and how is this our job?  Why do we have to support and give them everything?  Who gives aid and weapons to us?  We are in the middle of an economic crisis too!
Radical Muslim attacks on U.S soil is on the rise, and we want to talk diplomacy with these people... A liberal government will crash and take us all with it.
Read Psalm 83 and you will read of the Islamic desire to "wipe Israel off the face of the map", you will also read of the 2-state solution, and you will also read of the Islamic confederation of nations... It's all in prophecy - and Obama is NO student of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. If he were, he would know that curses are in store for those who are against Israel, and if America blesses the enemies of Israel, she will reap a curse from God the likes of which she has never seen. Repent, or you too will perish.
I consider myself to be a humanist. I believe individual respect and the firm preservation of human rights can lead to a more peaceful and tolerant world.
I am also a United States citizen who has worked hard my entire life and now face late mid-life without any health insurance and very little savings. I have a brother who after 30 years of hard work at Chrysler faces a very uncertain future. I have friends and neighbors who have lost their jobs and homes and have no where to turn.
I want my president to make me proud while in Cairo. I want him to speak of peace, reconciliation, human rights, no more torture and terrorism. I want the troops out of Iraq, and at least some peace in the middle east BUT I do not want to fund another 3rd world country until I can have my diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease monitored by a physician on a regular basis. I do not want a single American life lost fighting another enemy who has no respect for the lives and struggles of my fellow countrymen. I want Mr. Obama to remember the phrase: Think globally and act locally. Peace.
It is interesting when you listen to these students speak, they are "looking" for our president to act and cure the issue of Israel-Palestine relations. When are the governments and moreover, the people of this region going to take responsibility for the violence that has plagued it for decades. If they were actually "students" of history, they would be amazed to find out that it was the Arabs that declared war on the Jews in 1947 when the UN had decided to create a Jewish state with Great Britain taking lead. Again, it was the Arab states who said that they would not greet the creation of a Jewish state with gladness. It was only after the British had left the country, did they in fact invade the Jews. It is high time that Arabs shoulder the blame for the conflict that has turned the region into a killing field not our government and who do all this in the name supposedly a peaceful religion. I know my God does not condone hatred and violence, maybe we have a different deity we worship.
Deborah: As you may or may not know then answer me this. Why do we HELP Israsl a Nation that one was a Terroist Nation and One that kill's Innocent men, women& CHILDERN. and not all Middle Eastern Country's all the weapon's of WAR that Isral has were
given to it Indirectly USA so we bear some of responsibilty for KILLING of those in the Middle East.
So typical..  These people are looking for America to give the Egyptians a handout, give them weapons, or tools, or something else they can use.  But they don't want us defending israel and they don't want to hear anything they don't like.      They don't want to make any deals...   Frankly, when we stop buying their oil, the whole middle east is going to collapse.. and from the attitude they display.. they deserve it !
We want, we want, we want, we want............
These people need to do something themselves instead of thinking the US should do it for them.  Quit whinning people.
it will take time to change the ideology of the muslim world and also to change the ideology of the western world.  both the western and muslim world are at fault for all the hatred and ignoracne that is going on today.  i have to give credit to barack obama in trying to make peace and create a successful path.
Amr Adeeb on his "Orbit Network" made an unintended slip of the tongue when he used the words "final solution" in connection with the Israel/"Palestine" conflict. He could have used the words settlement or agreement, but did not.  Why?  Because Muslims everywhere really don't want the State of Israel to exist - never did and never will. Deep down, it would suit all Muslims of all nationalities (with few exceptions) if Israel simply disappeared.

President Obama is basically a decent man of goodwill (but misguided in this area of foreign relations),and he is making a giant mistake in catering to Muslim interests when it comes to Israel and Jerusalem.  Apparently the lessons of Gaza have been ignored. Remember that it was Hamas who started rocketing Israel from that location.  The West Bank "giveback" should not even be considered.  Israel has a right to this territory which was won back over Arab agression before and after the events of 1967.  Infortunately, even some Jews still have a hard time understanding this.

In any event, this whole business is really about religion.  With that in mind, the only real claim Muslims have to the HolyLand is the Dome of the Rock which wasn't built until the 7th Century when Islam was invented.  On that note, the Muslims tell us that their Prophet Muhammad was somehow transferred or tranlslated there one brief night and then rode up to heaven on a horse with a woman's face and conferred with God Himself before being transported back to Arabia. This is the kind of mentality we are dealing with.  So President Obama is going to visit Egypt where the government can't even provide its citizens with clean drinking water or garbage collection.  Compare that with Israel and the standard of living one sees there to include the West Bank Jewish settlements.

I say to Hell with making Muslims happy with a Palestinian state.  There will never be any guarantee from the world of Islam that there won't be another 9/11 even if a Palestinian state is created. In the end, dealing with Muslims when it comes to Jews and Israel is like dealing with Hitler in 1938 at Munich.  (Ironic isn't it that Palestinian Muslim attacks on Jewish athletes at the Olympics were at Munich?).

When we force Israel to give up the West Bank (and whatever else) we will see the reality of the situation when Hamas or some other nutcase outfit starts rocketing Israel again from that location. We will see lots of Palestinian Mulsim Arabs running around screaming and frothing at the mouth and firing AK-47s in the air. They could have built a luxury resort in Gaza, but somehow the thought escaped them and they opted for their favorite passtime of attacking Israel and killing Jews.  Live and learn, but mostly learn nothing at all!
We are all waiting patiently for a savior, hopefully it will be Obama. But what we need to remember is that he is only one person and every decision that he makes or promote will not be supported by many, so let us give him the opportunity to speak without any high expectation.
My wife and I just returned from Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel.  Fascinating temples, 5,000 year history.  Obama will change nothing in one speach.  No one will change the radical Islamists.  And Obama will certainly not raise the living standards in Egypt.  They expect a savior and they will be disappointed.
That first comment is so racist that it disgusts me. Not ALL Muslims are terrorists, they're not our "enemies." Obama is doing a great thing in reaching out to them.
Egypt is one of the United States' greatest allies in the Middle East. The first, of course, being Israel. However, Obama should realize that allying his government with the Egyptian government does not win the heart of the people. If we want any chance at fighting extremism in the Muslim world, the U.S. needs to stop pumping money in to corrupt governments (this includes that of Israel), which it utilizes only to push forth its own agenda, and start exercising some morality when dealing with the citizens of these Muslim countries. After all, they, NOT their governments, will be the key in decreasing and combatting extremism and anti-American sentiment.
doug miller has the idea who do they think they are it is not our responsibility to raise there standards the egyptians and saudi's can raise all of our living standards ..they choose to fund terrorism instead. wake up people but this president has no backbone to tell them that..dont forget this administration was in control of the house while bush was in office the last 2 years of his presidency not all the blame can be on bush the dems were right there in the middle of this economic mess were in ...look for a chinamen to be on our currency next.real soon ...hummer will change its name to hu hu mer....
After Obama is done bankrupting our country nad making us alllook like weak fools to the world maybe his Followers(the media} will wake up? Lets hope!
Peace Be Unto You,
Mr. Obama can have a huge impact in Cairo.
I hope that this will open the way for all countries to actively make peace a reality.
Here is how.
1. Stop supporting aggression.
2. Insist that all armies or armed reisitance stand down immediatley.
3. Make the welfare of Women, Children & elders the top priority.
Right on target, Douglas Miller of Detroit.  We can extend the olive branch of peace and cooperation, but moderate Muslims need to speak out and act against terrorism and radical Islam in return.  The President needs to be honest and reasonable about ratcheting up a more positive relationship.  America should not be looked upon as entirely to blame for the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
First off, America is only as great as it is because of the Presidents that have come before the one we have today.  Second, America is the World's shoulder to cry on and I personally feel we should provide as much aid as humanly possible to whoever needs it.  We waste so much during our daily lives that we can afford to share with others.  If we can't help other countries when they need it then what good are we?  We all need to remember that America started as the land of opportunity; in today's world technology has changed that role slightly, we have the capability and necessary provisions available to stretch our arms out and provide that oportunity to other nations so that they may some day be able to provide that opportunity in their own country.
After Obama is done bankrupting our country nad making us all look like weak fools to the world maybe his Followers(the media} will wake up? Lets hope!
The only way the Arab world would be happy with the United States is if Obama, cuts off all ties with Israel. I hope this will not happen!
Hi Tom

Yes, we might be at an important historic apportunity to end up the middle east conflict between the Israel’s and Palestinian's and between the Arab countries and Isreal. If this happens it can strengthen the relationship between the Islamic world and Isreal. In my openion for this thing to happen it will needs the people of the most powerfull country in the world the "United States of America" and a president like Obama to do this. It is the most complex political issue that our modern history is experienced. It will need every one to make some concessions and sacrify for the sake of the end results. I think that every one should look at the end of this picture when peace would previal and the trade and economic tie between neighboring countries will be established. Then every one will be happy and reponsible to build a safe house for his next generation in this region. I think the people in the streets are ready to have a better way of life with dignity. If this can happen it will lead to other positive consequances, like eliminating other fundemantalist groups all over the world for not having a popular support any more. I think it will take a wise man like Obama who him self not a stranger to the sensitivity of this issue and a president of United State that trying to let every person in the world to trust the 7 colors of the American rainbow and dream again and to believe in America and to have trust in him that he can make the change in this region of the world to let the smile shines on the face of every person who is living in the middle east ... I am only an optimistic person have a big dream... Is this is too much to have ...

Thank you Tom
Thank you NBC
Douglas Miller,

Looks like you're out of touch from what's been going on since the primaries have been over. Wake up! the election is over, Mr Obama won! You can stop making up stories now.
I couldn't agree more with most of the posts here. However, I think UNIVERSALLY we are putting to much "hope" in Obama. While he is the voice of the US democracy, actions always speak louder than words. We can not rely on a small group or even one individual to change the world, especially by simply giving a speech. It is the responsibility of EVERY citizen of our global civilization to take care of themself, their neighbors, and those who can not take care of themselves. Further, I think most people do a good job of this, but is the actions of a small minority of radicals on all sides (US, Israel, The Arab World, etc) who's actions end up destroying the good actions of the rest. We all need to stand up to the radicals in every community and say "This is not what we believe in, and if you want to act in this way you are no longer part of our community," and follow this ultimatum with action.
Why does MSNBC uncritically accept the reduction of almost all problems within the Muslim world to the Arab-Israeli conflict?  This ignores all other conflicts within the Muslim world, and above all, ignores the role of indoctrination in the Muslim world in conflicts across the globe.

There was not a single word about Darfur, or how the Arab League backs the Sudanese regime. There was little focus on the lack of religious andother freedoms across the Muslim world. There is not a mention that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is harped on by the Muslim world because of traditional antipathy to Jews, and because it's a convenient scapegoat that distracts from their own ills.

There was scarcely a hint of the state sponsored incitement. plaguing the Muslim world, nor of the many other conflicts across the edges of the Muslim world (Kashmir, Thailand, Nigeria, ...) .

There is not a hint that if there were no "settlements", there would still be no Arab-Israeli peace, because the Arab world, including "moderate" Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, has not accepted Israel as a permanent state. Abbas' refuses to recognize Israel as a Jewish state; Abbas' demands resettlement of refugees in pre-1967 Israel - which is impossible, which denies the rights of a similar number of Jewish refugees from Arab lands, and sidesteps Arab responsibility for starting the wars. And of course, the Palestinians as always got a free ride - no mention of Hamas, Fatah fighting.

Wooing the Muslim world by pressuring Israel is not going to bring Arab-Israeli peace when it encourages the Palestinians and the Arab world to stick to every hardline position. Moreover, the Muslim world's record on rights, freedom, etc. will only be hardened by appeasement.

It’s time to demand responsibility of leaders in the Arab and Muslim world, and not to appease them. It’s time to realize that terrorism will end only when regimes stop indoctrinating in schools and media.

Since when are we defending or for that matter trying to please Muslims? The ones that aren't trying to murder us tacitly approve the actions of the terrorists. Killing the infidels is part of their religion and we should wake up too that fact and act accordingly.
I dont understand how it has become our responsibility to improve anyones standard of living other than our own. If they dont want us over there then we should bring every one of our soldiers home and use them for border, airport, and seaport security. Lets keep all of these idiots out of the United States and let them live in their own country and deal with their own problems. And the next time they need help, let them call France!
It is time for the US to be a true partner in the world. There may have been a time where we were and should have led. Now that the world does have some parity of power and governments are more democratic, it is time for US hegemony to join colonialism in the history books.
Obama's weakness will only make us weaker. Appeasment will only lead to our demise.
Why are people so ignorant, you should never ever say anything if you have not traveled outside the United states and I am referring to you Deborah.
Not all Muslims are Radicals...That is the real issue.  America needs to deal with the Radical's but not all Islamic people are terrorist.  That is the misconception that America has on the Islamic world. I pray President Obama will help bring Peace to the Middle East!
Pres. Obama has the chance to give non Western living Muslims reasons to be willing to consider the USA and also the rich West more positively. I hope he shows genuine compassion and understanding and maybe he can start rebuilding relationships. I'm a Christian by faith, not birth. This year in Cairo I learned Egypt has more tolerant minded and spirited people than anywhere in the Middle East - may be a reason Mr. Obama is there. As for getting economic support, all countries affect each other economically, the USA more than most, so it is true to hope for better economic times and opportunities. We all receive our own economic support through opportunities we don't create, but use for our benefit - it's a network, and if you're lucky, you live in the right place at the right time and can partake. Most Egyptians aren't as lucky as citizens of the USA or Canada, or other states. God help you Mr. Obama to have courage, mercy and respect - show God's real face to these people and I think most will respond very, very well as a start. PS Sorry if this is hurtful to some but the policies adopted by Mr. Bush hurt too mnay much more than they helped - sad choices and now it's all about acting to recover - in many, many fields. Mr. Bush - nice person but poor record of decisions - should have been given a gracious farewell in 2004.
radical islam was created because of radical christians. remember the hundreds of years fowl treatment american blacks had to endure because of the good christians of this country, maybe we wouldnt be in this situation if the last administration didnt try to steal a country and think that there would be no repercussions. maybe when we stop trying to overthrow governments and get involved uninvited in the affairs of others we wouldnt have all these problems, now is the time for the U.S. to lead and president Obama is the one to provide that leadership
Egyptians shouldn't be complaining to the US about their living standards...the US has given them some 20 billion (yes, that's a "B") US dollars per year for decades.  That's more than we give anyone else (aside from Israel, who only gets slightly more).  The reason they're poor is their own government's inability to relinquish control and permit a free market democracy to function properly.  I'm ok with Muslims around the world expecting more political understanding and assistance from the US, but Egyptians whining about $ is plain ridiculous.  Should we overthrow Mubarak?
If the egyptians want to see us out of Afghanistan the answer is simple: send their soldiers to take our soldiers place...

Tah-dah!!!

The Taliban would have a hard time calling Egyptian soldiers "infidel invaders" and suspect the locals would prefer the arrangement too.
I think, The EGYPTIANS as well as MOSLEMS do not expect Mr. OBAM to make their lives better or to raise their living or even to give a better taste to the american afforded cake to the whole world.
The non oslems should look more carefuly to Islam and moslems who had once transfered the civilization and knowledge to them. Moslems are not killers,Terrorists or blood shedders. The westerns know better who is the one who is doing so.
Islam suffers from the ignorant and untrue moslems like any other religion or great ideas, yet, should some one likes to know better about Islam he should refer to islam sources and references, not reading about at the his enemies media.
Mr. Obam does this and we as moslem and Egyptian do not expect much from him but we thank him for his respectful, rational approach.
Remeber Egypt is 5000 years older than USA, Islam is 1500 years older than any Western ethical Fubdamentals and Cairo is a 1000 years older than Washington.
He was smart to come to CAIRO but are there any other smart from where he comes
I agree 100% with Douglas miller, however Americas meddling in the Middle East due to our ungodly thirst for oil must also be addressed.
I am sick and tired hearing Obama aplogize for everything America has done wrong in the world.  The same liberal metality that permeates from those on the left, which spews America is to blame for everything unpleasant.  Saddam Hussein is gone, we have liberated hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, we are in the process of liberating Afganistan, we have donted billions in aid around the world but yet we are always at fault.  By the way, where were Osama's muslim family members during the election?  If he is so proud to mention his Muslim heritage, where was that pride 12 months ago???  Anything to get elected....
In my opinion, "RADICALISM" is born from those who feel oppressed.  Hopefully, Pres. Obama will not give away the store during the Cairo speech.  His idealism must also include measures of reality.  America and the Muslim community need to build a strong pylon to support the bridge of reconciliation, without sacrificing each others values. It's only when we all pour out sweat on such a project...can a bond of brotherhood be achieved.
My Fellow Americans:

Obama should try to make peace in the Middle East and this includes dealing with Iraq properly but also with forcing the Israelis to give up some more land so the true problem of all of the Middle East can be finally resolved after decades of problems and that is the issue with the Palestinians and their right to statehood. Fix this problem my fellow Americans, and then you took the wind out of radical Islam's sails FOREVER. But Ben Netenyahu, the Israeli prime minister, is a jerk and won't budge on this issue too much. Why did the Isreali's elect this idiot again, years later....?? He pummeled the Oslo Accord back in the 90's if you remember, right?
Israel is the problem equal to radical Islam as well. Both are extremists in their own right. They hate each other forever. But, they can live together too. The Palestinians have had a long, rough ride and it is time for America to put Israel in its place with settling the Palestinian issue of statehood, once and for all my fellow Americans. Peace in the Middle East could then happen. But as long as Israel is killing scores of Palestian childern whenever they want to...there will always be hate and war between them both.
I have been to the Muslim world. We are different. That is OK. Let's celebrate our differences with the Muslims as we would with the jews too.

And God bless those who fight for peace, not on the battlefield, but amongst the people as well. But war is for the wealthy and peace is for the poor. So often though, the wealthy have the poor fight their wars....it has been that way forever in human history. And, the Palestinians are very POOR indeed my fellow Americans. We must help them now.

But Americans are fed up with Muslims though...as well as the illegals coming into our country from Latin America as well. There was two illegal invasions in the early 21st Century my fellow Americans. One was against our country from these illegals invading it from Latin America. The other was our idiotic invasion of Iraq. Maybe we don't get along with brown-skinned people who speak a different languges than we do here in America....I pray everyday though for God's forgiveness for my role as an American for the 15,000 childern and elderly human beings we are all responsible for killing as Americans in Iraq. I don't blame our troops for this either. I blame the American people for not showing any remorse for the thousands of Iraqi childern that died due to Bush's stupid invasion of their country. May God forgive all of the sleeping American Sheeple. The ShepPard and Wolves winked across the valley at each other of the pathetic inaction that the Sheep would not take against their wicked Sheppard. As the Sheep Dog barked about the threats to us form the wolves...with the Sheep Dog being the sterile American media network system. The American people can't trust the Sheep Dog nor their Sheppard, the US government. The American people kill each other far more often than Saddam's WMD that never was found after we invaded that country, remember? What about accountability then for our stupid actions in this regard. We just beat the Chinese to Iraq's oil, that is all. And, the Chinese paid for this war too. Thanks China!!! But we have real WMD in America called the almighty American gun, that kills 12,000 Americans per year. Real American WMD, right? YEP. 12,000 dead Americans if you do the math, is equal to a military sized "division" of personnel. Yet, we allow this internal national security threat to go on all the time under the misguided interpretations of the Second Amendment that stupid Americans fall for even though the Founding Fathers NEVER intended for a Virginia Tech-style body count to happen every single day in America (33 dead per day on average.) So, who is our real enemies my fellow Americans? Is it us, or who kills FOUR TIMES as many Americans than we lost on 9/11 from foreign brown-skinned terrorists? 12,000 dead Americans PER YEAR, which since the Iraq war started in 1993, gives us 72,000 Americans killed by American WMD in America by Americans which is far more than we lost in Vietnam in 12 years of being in that country. 6 years since the invasion of Iraq, we have lost more Americans in half that time than we lost in Vietnam, which was about 50,000 young men in 12 years time total.
Where is our Moral Intelligence my fellow Americans. Are we moral hypocrits to the extreme? Yep. The unnecessary death of an innocent American in America is the same whether foreign terrorists fly planes into your buildings or if that Republican or Democrat corporate politician takes lobbyist money from the wicked NRA, which in the end, since those idiots in Wasthingon who tell us their number one job is to protect the people, allow the same people to die from gun misuse. Now guns are being allowed into national parks as well? How stupid is that indeed? How stupid are we to not realize that our US government establishment has not respect for us at all as everyday Americans. Just look at Katrina and how badly our veterans are being treated once they get home from wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. They also allow us to die by about 40,000 PER YEAR in our wicked healthcare system as well. Since 9/11, that equals about 250,000 dead Americans in America who perished quitly because they were medically uninsured. This equals what the civil wars in Bosnia and Darfur, Sudan ended up with as their death toll. How stupid we are not to see this as Americans....
I still love my country though. I am still proud to be an American and would not be re-born any other nationality at all. And I have been to 40 countries on 5 continents and lived in another 3 countries for a few years as well.
So, our US corrupt corporate government establishment then treats us Americans as badly as the Palestinians get treated in the Middle East. There are strong comparisons for sure. Just look into it all. If you care to. We must fight to take our own country back from those who have driven it into the ground because they were greedy and corrupt. Yet, they have turned out to be incompetent and arrogant by far as well. There must be another American revolution one day. But the sheep will have to get teeth then, and bite back hard against those betraying them constantly who waive that American flag in their faces and keep them in fear of brown-skinned foreigners of a different religous background who are all a long way from home here in America. Unless, of course, they crept up and crossed the southern border with the Hispanic illegals from Latin America...which is probably and likey too. They are sitting here waiting now...waiting to strike us again. But I have no fear as an American of these evil people. Because I fear my fellow American equally to them. That is the bottom line. That is reality. Unfortunate as it is, it is true. Americans must treat each other much better than they do. We behave towards each other as badly as our own government treats us just the same. This must stop one day very soon.

ya,I believed that Obama will take good and right step.America is powerful country so they should used their power in right way,I hope he will make better relationship with underdeveloped country and Islamic country not use force in wrong way.apart from if america  really want peace then it is good news for whole world.
palenstine has a right to ther own home land, we have been supporting Israel and we should be also helping others in the area, but we will not or should not let terrorism control our actions. Arabs need to stand up for themselves and stop condoning violence as a means to an end.
America and Moslems world should be ally in every front of modern day world but the zionist control this country and Israel thirst to steal more land and her desire to mass murder men, women and childern in the region wont bring any positive results anytime soon. Zionist ambition to rule the world and treat the world as their slave is the root cause of all world problems. If anyone wants peace,he/she should confront zionist first.
Aid is never free, folks.   People complain about how we "help third world countries, why don't they help themselves??".  Sigh.  Get educated - aid is part of a cost-benefit analysis in foreign policy, and we ALWAYS get something in exchange.   To maintain its hegemonic power, the US provides free-ridership benefits to the rest of the world.  It's what sustains us.  Hello?  Case in point; the Marshall Plan took place not because the US is a noble and generous nation, but because we could no afford to have a weakened Europe next to the Iron Curtain.  Aid to Pakistan is calculated to help us influence the region in terms of our interests.  Aid to Mexico is because our interests (and economies) are intertwined in a variety of key issues.

Obama is out there to create a dialogue and a sense that we understand that there are other viewpoints out there that can be accepted...it isn't all about extremism.  The extreme forms we see in America are as violent and abhorrent as those anywhere else, that doesn't automatically mean we're a nation of bloodthirsty, insular, ignorant warmongers, does it?  Of course not, and neither are most of the Muslims in the world, but they rightly resent the tripe that has passed for US foreign policy over the last 8 years...just like every other country in the world.  This is something that anyone who has travelled knows.
There are 1.5 billion muslims out of 6 billion people on the planet earth. You can't fight one-fourth of the population of planet earth.

I am a doctor trying to save lives in a hospital in Pakistan but if my country is invaded "I WOULD BECOME A MILITANT".

If the USA has the right to defend herself, then we too have the same right.

At present, AL-QAEDA and TALIBAN are attacking my country and "I wish I could PERFORM SURGERY ON BIN LADEN AND HIS CRONIES WITHOUT ANAESTHESIA."
Islam is an evil, dangerous religion.  I should know, having witnessed first-hand their daily activities, via living in Moslem countries for several years.  I went there with a relatively open mind, being an agnostic for most of my adult life, and what I discovered sobered me to the realities of this extremist, oppressive, narrow-minded, backward-thinking, murderous religion.

Believe me, the goal of the vast majority the Islamic populace is to distroy all other religious faiths on this planet.

Islam will never peacefully coexist with Israel... or any other non-Islamic secular State, for that matter.   Nearly all Christianity in the present Islamic countries have either been exterminated or driven into exile.

Frankly, up until recently I didn't much care, because I thought that this whacko religion planned to always stay "over there" and leave us, in the Western World, alone.

Not so.  These crazies are hell bent to convert all of Europe and every other Continent to Islam, and will kill those unwilling to submit. Even now, they  make every effort to kill any Moslem that attempts to leave their faith.
This is what we should do.  Say we'll be friendly and stay out of the business of the Middle East, but if America is attacked again, we will use our weapons of mass destruction on the Islamic world until it is rid of jihaddists, period.  Take it or leave it. Perhaps this will bring about real change in the middle east.
Wow George J. from AZ, I am ashamed to say that I even live in the same state as you.  Thank the Good Lord that the majority of AZ residents don't think like you do as shown by the numbers in recent elections.  Please oh please tell me how people which read a book (the Qur'an) that instructs them to kill gentiles (anyone who is not Muslim) is a peacible religion.  Have you read anything about them, do you know what these people believe? But I'm sure you're are correct, all they want is peace; just like all N. Korean wants nuclear technology for peaceful nuclear energy.  I'm certain they have no other agenda in mind now do they.  Maybe consider a relocation to Cali where a majority of people are bleeding-hearts and just want to make everyone happy, including the people that come to the US ILLEGALLY.  That does sound like a much better environment for you.
