‘Neither candidate will be good for Pakistan’

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – For many Pakistanis, the battle for the White House raging in the U.S. is less about the differences between the two candidate’s qualifications to be president, and more about which of the two is more likely to stop sending missile-firing drone aircraft from across the border in Afghanistan into Pakistan’s tribal areas.

And in that regard, many Pakistanis are overwhelmingly in favor of Sen. Barack Obama.

Many believe that Obama will be a friend to Pakistan and change the Bush administration’s policy of "hot pursuit" of terrorists inside their borders.

VIDEO: Pakistanis differ over whether an Obama or McCain White House will be best

Even more surprisingly, more than a few of the Pakistanis we spoke with were convinced that Obama is Muslim because his middle name is "Hussein," and therefore believe he may be more sympathetic to Pakistan if he were president.

"Barack Obama is for Muslims," said Osman Ali, an 18-year-old high school student in Islamabad. "I am sure he will withdraw U.S. forces from our borders and that’s why I hope he will win."

Nazim Hussain, a medical student, echoed Ali. "Obama will not be like Bush," he said. "Bush had an aggressive policy towards Muslims and I’m sure that Obama will be different."

But if these Pakistanis had listened to the first presidential debate between the two candidates, they might have been surprised. Obama and Sen. John McCain were at odds over Pakistan – with McCain taking a softer stance.

Difference of approach
According to Obama, the U.S. has to deal with Pakistan in a tougher manner. Pakistan has received $10 billion in U.S. military aid and assistance and the Pakistanis have not done what needs to be done to get rid of the terrorist safe havens inside their borders.

"If the United States has al-Qaida, bin Laden, top-level lieutenants in our sights, and Pakistan is unable or unwilling to act, then we should take them out," Obama said during the first presidential debate on Sept. 26 when a question by moderator Jim Lehrer about Afghanistan lead to the issue of Pakistan.

McCain said such threats were unhelpful. "We've got to get the support of the people of – of Pakistan," he said. He countered by stressing the need to work with the Pakistani people to help them get the border area under control.

"We're going to have to help the Pakistanis go into these areas and obtain the allegiance of the people. And it's going to be tough," he said.

In spite of McCain’s call for a new strategy in dealing with Pakistan, Salima Agha, a savvy businesswoman in Islamabad, had no time for a McCain presidency.

"I’m for Obama," she said. "He’s young, he’s energetic and he represents change." She added, "He’s the JFK of the 21st century."

‘The U.S. policy will always be against us’
But Kulsoom Mirza, a mother of four who lives in an upscale Islamabad neighborhood, thought both candidates were highlighting strikes inside Pakistan as a way to win votes.

"Neither candidate will be good for Pakistan," she said. "God forbid that the U.S. will do to us what they have done to Afghanistan and Iraq. But it seems to me and to my family that the U.S. is intent upon destroying Pakistan as well," she said.

Mirza’s views seemed to have widespread support among Pakistanis from all walks of life.

Raja Khalid, a marketing manager in Rawalpindi, agreed when asked about his views on the U.S. presidential candidates.

"It is up to the American people to decide who will be their president, Pakistan has nothing to do with it," said Khalid. "But one thing I know for sure, the U.S. policy will always be against us –that will never change." He added, "We need to distance ourselves from America."

Others echoed Khalid’s sentiments and seem to see the U.S. as more of a menacing threat than an ally.

"The Americans are enemies of Muslims," said Muhammed Shabbir, who works in a laundry shop in Rawalpindi. "They do not wish us well; the Americans want to destroy us," he said.

Shabbir, who spoke in Urdu, the native language of Pakistan, grew impatient from the question as much as from the heat inside the small shop as he labored over a hot iron.

"Look," he told us, "The U.S. is responsible for all the terrorism taking place inside Pakistan today," he said, his voice becoming agitated. "The U.S. is the mastermind of all our problems because it wants to destroy Pakistan," he said.

Not mincing words, Agha, the business woman in Islamabad, said, "The U.S policy is just all wrong. The Bush administration’s policy is just all wrong."

"How could the U.S. expect to invade and occupy two Muslim countries and not expect repercussions," she said. "And now they see what they have sowed."

A country full of ignorant, fanatical, totally delusional people sympathetic to the likes of Bin Laden and they hate America?  That is what we call an ally in today's world?  You got to be kidding!  We should stay away from them and make it clear we want nothing to do with their country, especially do not want to "destroy" them.  With one clear message to go along with that one, "Either you clean up the mess inside your borders and take out the terroists who do want to actually destroy countries or you will be looked upon as an accomplice of those terrorists and our military will treat you like an accomplice, not our ally!"

Pakistan is moving to the forefront in this election. God only knows the positive place Pakistan could have been had Benazir still been alive, she was a wonderful person and leader.

Well I am looking forward to all President Obama will do in Pakistan- his plan is aggresive and at the same time the people of Pakistan will be helped.

Have no doubts, Barrack will be the next President, MCcain is a good man, but saddled with 8 years of BUSH evilness and foolishness. Plus its simple if you want to stay in Iraq, vote MCcain, if you want out Obama- bottom line Obama will win in a landslide. Iraq is MCcain's downfall.
Eugene in Miami- they have a good reason to hate America (and we deserve it!!)- Firstly, the BUSH regime lied and invaded IRAQ, our well meaning troops have killed over 600 thousand innocent chilren, women and men thru collateral damage (those are Green Zone issued facts), Saddam could only be blamed for about 4000 murders (evil I know, but no where near what we have done). So we have actually made matters worse for the people there. Can't imagine why they are not welcoming us as liberators.

If you travel alot on business as I do- you will find we are not even liked by our allies- just try to spout the praises of the USA in Liverpool or London, you will find out quick how much even non muslims hate the USA.

Its sad, we were once great-because we were the country with the big heart-now where the country with the big fist- and as you can see, once our government became immoral (like our enemies), everything else went sour (economy is the biggie, abuses of the Patriot Act etc).

I teach my kids not to believe everything the Government says, and the true Patriots call the leadership on the carpet when they are dead wrong.

So its Obama in November- our new President-Thank God
The war in Iraq may be unpopular but just getting out for the sake of getting out would be foolish. It will be a slow withdraw over several years with some elements of our military remaining beyond that.Obama will not pull all of our troops out in 16 months like he preaches. That would be foolish. He is taking a populace approach in order to get elected. He has done this with many issues. He uses the old liberal mantra of tax the rich give to the middle and poor. People like to hear that yet fail to realize that hurting the big guy doesn't help the little guy.Somehow these higher taxes will create jobs and stop businesses from moving overseas.
Regardless of this, Obama has done a better job of commuicating his false message and hiding his past. He will be our next President for this reason.
The issue of Pakistan will not be solved in the next 4 years.  Terrorists are embedded in areas of Pakistan, and if the government there won't take care of the problem, then the US will have to step in.
Just reading this article shows that some of the people of Pakistan are sympathetic to the Terrorists plight, soft tactics are just not going to work. Just like Iraq, we need to take an agressive approach to solving the Pakistan problem.

In the end, the next presidency could well define our policies in the middle-east for decades to come.
For years now the world has witnessed terror attacks that intelligence agencies have all traced back to Pakistan. If the Pakistani people think that they can turn a blind eye to this and let terrorists use Pakistan as a lauch pad to distroy or kill people all over the world, they really are crazy. God forbid, but if there is a nuculear attack in the world that kills 500,000 people, the jihad games are over- Pakistan will be gone.
I agree with Eugene, Regardless of how fanatical or "conditioned" these people are, no one should expect terrorist attacks to go unanswered.

I would agree with McCain's plan to try to win the hearts and minds of the people under normal circumstances but Pakistani's are simply "too far gone" for that.

Pakistan cannot have it both ways. Either they are in control of activities within their borders or the tribal regions should not be considered part of Pakistan. I have absolutely no desire for leniency or "understanding" because of a nations religious beliefs. Fanatics and terrorists are a threat and must be dealt with.
Who cares what the Pakistan people think. We send foreign countries billions of dollars in aid and all they can say is we are the problem? Whomever is elected should develop an energy plan to get the U.S. from depending on foreign oil and we should forget about the rest of the world. We have AMERICAN citizens that need our government's help right here at home. We should not waste our resources on a bunch of people who don't appreciate it.
Karen Meyers in Amsterdam, FL - There is one fundamental difference in the way we wage war and the way Al Qaida (sp?) wages war.  That number of civilians killed I disagree with, but whether or not that number is correct, there is one thing you must realize.  When we wage war we don't actively target civilians.  Whatever civilian deaths have occured in Iraq were the result of getting caught in crossfire.  Al Qaida (sp?) DOES actively target civilians and uses a great many as human shields.  So I'd say that if that number is true you must ask yourself how many were from crossfire and how many were the result of being used as human shields by Al Qaida. Care to re-think your stance on the "regime" and rethink just who is truly evil?  And I agree with Eugene Bueno.  Pakistan, either take care of the terrorist rabble yourselves or we will do it for you.
What puzzles me most is the Islamic connection.  Do any of you really care if someone is Muslim or not?  They need to undrstand how to read through the propaganda and see the truth.  All Americans care about is that there are crazy people willing to blow anyone up for the sake of a cause we don't understand.  Live in peace and we will leave you in peace.  And don't blame it on oil.  We can and do pay for the oil.  It doesn't matter who we buy it from.
Pakistan has been our friend and ally for 60 years who fought our war with Russians in Afghanistan. Then we dumped both Afghanis and Pakistanis to face the aftermath. Now we talk about sending troops in a sovereign country and then expect them to be still our friends. With all the resources at our disposal we are not sure but only THINK Osama is in Pakistan but then don't they know how we have treated our friends i.e. Marcos of Phillipines, Shah of Iran, General Noriega. Even Osama was a 'freedom fighter' friend and 'hero' till he was fighting against Russians. We have to blame someone for our failures in the name of 'they are not doing enough'.
I believe we will have another attack after the election for all of the above reasons. They will not do anything now because it would help McCain. Remember my words when this happens.
I'm sick of giving billions to all these countries that "hate" America.  Pull all aid and spend in here at home on the critical infrastucture improvements we need.
Being from Pakistan, living in Pakistan, i feel we need to educate our people to understand that nothing will be resolved or won by attacks and bloodshed. The only way forward is to work with the global village, yet negotiate tactfully so that important issues are not compromised. But for everybody, i am surprised that the world has forgotten that USA created 'Taliban', the 'Tora Bora' and Osama has been meeting American authorities regularly when USSR was trying to take Afghanistan. USA must take the responsibility in front of the world for creating the evil which now is a global problem, specially for Pakistan, it is a huge setback. Obama i feel will have fresher approach toward ever criticized (rightfully though) USA foreign policy!
All those who think the Pakistanis know something about Barak Hussein Obama being a Muslim raise your left hand.
It is the US policies in the region that have created all these terrorists. America always favoured the dictators in Pakistan rather than the democracy across the border in India. It always gave financial incentives to the dictatorships in Pakistan as a result of which, pakistan kept on financing the terrorist/separtist elements inside India/Afganistan. And when after 9/11 they had to seprate themselves from taliban, they forgot that Taliban was like a parasite and would always need somebody to feed on, if not Afganistan then Pakistan. Love it.
Typical NBC/MSNBC journalism - "See, Pakistanis love Obama, so you should, too!"  I couldn't care less if Pakistanis love Obama.  In fact, I'm even more suspect of him (if that's possible) because of it!  After all, Pakistanis love Bin Laden, too!

Every time I see NBC/MSNBC spew one of these stories that are clearly designed to play on the psyche, if not outright brain wash people, I can't wait for the day that the liberal media goes down.  One by one - NBC/MSNBC, New York Times, Washington Post - one by one.  Each day their adherents are fewer and father between.  Each day fewer and fewer people subscribe.  Fewer and fewer people listen.  Each day they push their agenda their credibility decays a little more and fewer people buy into their pap.
Karen,
Wrong, Pakistan has no reason.  Iraq, they have legitimate reasons to hate us for making a mess and not letting them handle there own country.  I don't agree with many things America has done.  But overall what this country provides for you and other countries is so great it is beyond description.  If you have so much hatred for the country you live in then why are you here?  Do you hate every other country worse?  Stable people fight to improve their country, fight to raise their voice about what their country has done wrong.  That is a citizen.  If you believe your country deserves to be hated any sane person would leave to go live with the folks you share that hatred with!!!!!

600 thousand innocent Iraqis?  How badly to you hate America to make up such horrific lies.  You must be to not read the facts that since the shites and sunnis started killing each other those fatalities have made up the overwhelming percentage of deaths in that country.  Iraqis have killed more Iraqis than the number of terrorists our military can claim killed!  600 thousand?  That number would represent a large percentage of the entire Iraq armed forces which we fought against.  Are you kidding!  Saddam killed more than 4,000 in one event when he gassed Iraqis fighting for freedom after the first Gulf War.  What sick motives could you have not to recognize these facts!!!

I am NOT a right wing nut.  I AM voting for Obama.  I thought Bush was the worst president ever!  But I realize the great things America does and the great things we represent.  Even if our government deploys our military on a bad mission I would NEVER do anything but offer my respect and support for the men and women braver than I who risk their lives to answer the call of duty.  To ever equate our volunteer army who with dictators and murderers like Saddam is despicable.  It is such a distortion of the truth that only an evil person would express those thoughts.  I DO NOT agree with our troops being in Iraq, but like every decent person I know the troops over there are doing what little good they can with a stupid mission!  You say we are like our enemies?  Man you are one twisted individual!

No doubt many non-Muslims hate America.  Ignorance, jealousy and bitterness know no bounds.  So they hate us in Liverpool, London, etc...?  One bad president, one stupid and ill advised invasion/occupation and England hates us?  Really?  Gee Karen, I guess you forgot about a small event called WWII where England survived for one reason and one reason only; The United Sates of America!

So they hate us in London for this stupid occupation of Iraq?  Karen, I guess you and everybody else should hate England for that little occupation of most of the world for the better part of 200 years before people in many continents threw them out and finally had freedom to rule themselves!  But you and those English hate America?  How pathetic!  Even more pathetic is how a person teaching their kids hatred of the very country and very system that provides them the best opportunity on earth!
Karen you are right!!- we have lost the moral high ground, when we lied to the United Nations and the world and invaded and now occupy a country whose leadership and people do not want us there anymore. Just look how dismal things have been here in the United States ever since we did this-Al Queda is just as wrong- but they have won. We have become like them, we lie and kill the innocent, President Bush wanted the power to lock up AMERICAN citizens indefinitly, without charging them (UNBELIEVABLE!!) and now we a reaping our just rewards, things will get worse in the states, until we regain our status as a nation that cares. MCcain speaks of winning, does he realise that no one him except him and Sarah-acudda even care about that, Barrack is right target the supposed bad people werever they are, we have wasted so much money and human life both American Troops and Iraqi innocents(they count too). Yes, Thank God Barrack will win in NOV, because we need a shift in values.
I too believe that the reason the bad guys are not attacking on our soil, is they are waiting, as a attack could play into MCcains favor, so I too expect a attack after out new President (Barrack) takes office.

They should not underestimate SEN Obama-it will be to their demise. He will make a great President!
If the majority of Pakistani's are behind Obama then why did this column have a heading from one of the miority opinions?  Very misleading and must have been written by one of "Warmonger" McCain's lobbyists.

The majority of Pakistani's are correct to believe that Obama will treat Pakistan better than his belligerent opponent.  After over 7 years of "Warmonger" Bush coddling a military dictator instead of the people Obama will change that fundamental mistake.  We need to help the Pakistani's rid their country of Al Qaeda and the Taliban in a responsible manner in order for our two countries to become better partners in the future.

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
Our foreign Policy reallys s*&% (Rice has been failure). No wonder we are hated across the planet, and folks we need the rest of the world more than they need us.

Obama will have to work hard to overcome 8 years of dumbness and disreguard for human life that America is now famous for.
J.C, Islamabad just want to let you know that "Taliban" was not created by USA.
I cannot think of anyone, except, perhaps the people of Pakistan themselves, would think that Pakistan is a stable or trustworthy country.  The history of Pakistan since its creation, and I repeat creation, has been a series of military dictators interspersed with a bunch of corrupt politicians masquerading as Democratic politicians.  The only thing that has kept Pakistan from destroying itself has been its fear and hatred of India which has allowed its military to effectively rule the country for more than 60 years.

I believe that rapprochement with India will definitely help Pakistan in the short as well as the long run.  I also think that a close look at the constitution of Pakistan by the people of Pakistan is seriously warranted.  No matter who is the President of the US, or for that matter, the head of any non-islamic government anywhere, they would be wary of Pakistan.

From this article, I get the impression that even the upper middle class of Pakistan are so blinded to their own failings, that to them the failure of Pakistan as a nation is everyone else's fault except their own.
To Karen in Amsterdam-while I will certainly agree with your arguments of how we ended up in Iraq; thousands of innocent dying because of a war cause that was built on lies is criminal, you're contention that we've killed over 600 thousand people and Saddam only killed 4 thousand is absolutely 100% incorrect.

That is not to say that it's more acceptable that less people actually died than you claimed, but giving exaggerated numbers instead of facts does not help the matter. In fact, where did you get those “green zone” issued facts anyway? I didn’t think so.

As far as Afghanistan: let us not lose focus and forget that on September 11th 2001, almost 3 thousand innocent people were slaughtered by 19 animals who took control of 4 airplanes. This is the kind of attack that requires a response. The Taliban chose to protect those who committed this crime which is why we’re in Afghanistan today.

Pakistan, while an important ally, suffers from the desire to appease those who kill innocents. It’s this appeasement that has put them in this situation, not America. They allowed these animals safe refuge and in turn were bitten several times over.

I think America should send more troops to Afghanistan, stay out of Pakistan but line the border so that Al Qaeda can’t leave Pakistan either. Once they become Pakistan’s biggest problem-and they will-Pakistan will then choose to deal with them.
The USA created, funded and armed the Taliban and Al Queda in Afganistan.
The comments and attitude of the American people, or at least the majority of them, is hopeless and depressing at best. You people are making opinions on a country based on information that has been fed to you, and none of which defines the true nature of what the people of this country are really like. Its sick and sad to read through these articles because every time I do they basically read like a festival of hatred. God help you, in both understanding the rest of the World and your own selves, before you destroy everyone who thinks differently than you.

A whole country is being blamed for the actions of a few? Very nice and very logical of all of you, media and population included.

Thanks for being the voice of "reason" and "freedom". What would the world do without you...
To Muslim countries only one thing in America is understood. "IN GOD WE TRUST". It's on our money and is our mantra. They see this as a war of religon and protect their warriors of Allah as fiercely as we protect our warriors of God. We are cocky in our beliefs and the only way to win comes from a line in the movie "Full Metal Jacket", (If we can't put our ideals in their heads, put a bullet in their body.) We have been at a Religious "Cold War" for centuries. George just brought it into the open.
Barrack has taken a aggresive" go after the Al Queda, wereever they pop their heads up", including Pakistan. Good for our next President.

Much better than the money pit that is Iraq-what a total and unpresidented mess Iraq has been- and that one poster is right- we started going down as a country, when we lied and invaded Iraq on lies. My, my, think of all the innocent blood that crys out. I hope Sen Obama can clean things up.

I was actually very surprised that the Bush administration gave Pakistan a hefty aid package ($10 Billion) and made Pakistan an "ally" to help in the war on terror, back in 2001, given the following facts:

- The Pakistani government were responsible for birthing and supporting the Taliban in the first place.

- Elements of ISI, the Pakistani military "intelligence" agency, are extremely sympathetic to hard line religious Islamists.

- The presence of the pernicious Madrasas that churn out hateful young men.

- The Pakistani ethos of violent aggression against neigbor states, like democratic, non violent neighbor, India.

Obviously, Pakistan was a big part of the global terrorism problem and should have been dealt with in a firm manner, rather than through "soft" diplomacy.
Fast forward 7 years and $10B and nothing much has changed. Pakistan continues to export Islamic terrorism and remains a *very* dangerous country, given it's nuclear arsenal.

The time for "soft" diplomacy is long past. We need to wake up and see Pakistan for what it really is - a failed state that enables Islamic terrorism and one that's in no position to police itself. The time is here for us to come up with a tactical response that accomplishes:

- Clean up of the NW Frontier badlands, with eventual capture/death of OBL.

- Destruction of madrasas and the financial pipeline from Saudi Arabia that finances these institutions.

- A plan to safeguard/seize Pakistan's nuclear assets.

Talking hasn't worked. It's time to drop the hammer.

Pakistan better clean it's house up or we'll do it for them.  And if we do, it won't be pretty.

J.C, Islamabad (Sent Friday, October 03, 2008 11:26 AM)"

I agree whole-heartedly J.C. If we continue down this path of "destroy so they don't destroy" we will find ourselves in an endless and pointless circle of bloodshed much like the one we are already engaged in.
We should take advantage of the fact that we have this sort-of-allegience right now and try to rid ourselves of a mutual problem, before we screw up and the allegience is no longer there to work with.
This "evil which is now a global problem" should be treated as such, a GLOBAL problem. It is pointless for people here to die trying to exterminate the problem as people there die caught in a crossfire when the target is truely a threat to us all.
And to all the comments on here who are so concerned with the fact that Mr. Obama may or may not be Muslim...why does it matter? He is working to better our country for all of us. If America is such a melting pot why does our leader's religious path matter?
Pakistan and Iraq are two different issues. There were no Al-Quieda in Iraq until we got there. And, in the short run, Pakistan has to have the effort given to the Iran problem. Pakistan already has nukes and ways to deploy them . Iran may be trying to get them. And, no, we don't target civilians but you have to have the ability to see how things are perceived from the other side.
Alright alot of people have been getting facts wrong

1)Pakistan isn't "all muslim" you got athiests, agnostics, christians, etc which make up 20% of the population.

2)Most of Pakistan actually SUPPORTRS what the US is doing, we want them to come in and take out the terroists if they have to. You just got a few idiots on the tribal areas which is basically a whole different country saying things. If you go to any big city in Pakistan 90% of the people are pro-American.

3)Pakistan is a middleclass country I don't know where people get that the whole country is "dirt poor" yeah there are some poor parts but again those are the tribal areas where people are causing trouble.

So all in all most people to put it frankly don't care for the attitudes of most Americans who have a "police the world attitude" but we do want America to finish the war on terror.
Read Muhhamed from Islambads post - he's right, he 's trying to tell Americans the truth, but the you flag waving "America right or wrong" folks, won't listen, they are Gods children, just like you-wake up.

Admiral Mullen was right, "we can not kill our way out of this". McCain thinks we are too good to just to sit down and talk with people we don't agree with, Sen Obama says what it would it hurt to just talk?

Wake up America!!, where is the country that was a lighthouse to the world? Thank you Sen Obama, GOD will bless our country for seeking peace first.
I'm sorry but when did it matter AT ALL what the hell Pakistanis think about our election?  If your country harbors and supports terrorists you are putting your country at risk of American military action.
Disagree 100% with Michael-Fort Bragg. The Iraqui govt. has already issued the US a timeline. There is no way that the war monger McCain is going to be able to keep us in Iraq indefinitely. Why should we spend 10 billion a month while they build up their reserves from oil revenues. As soon as we leave they will cozy up to Iran if not sooner.Iraq<s parliament is made up of Shias mostly-Iran's populace- and their families are all living in Iran now.We went into Iraq under false lies from Bush and his lier Cheney,   who by the way evaded the draft by having children .However has no problem sending someone else's children to a war to increase Halliburton's and his profits
Pakistan is a nation of over 170 million people. Let me put that in perspective for you--America is nation of over 300 million and so Pakistan has half the population of the U.S. There are many DIFFERENT kinds of Pakistanis just like in the United States. They all have different viewpoints (liberal, conservative ,moderate, etc) so to say that all Pakistanis support Osama Bin Laden or support America with undying love is extremely ignorant. To put it in into context that is like saying all Americans support President Bush. This is simply not the case. Pakistan is probably the most vital front on terrorism. I have no doubt that Bin Laden is hiding in the lawless area of the frontier provinces. But to catch him is going to be tough. The reason why Americans can't enter Pakistani ground without perssion is that many Pakistani citizens believe it violates the soverignty of Pakistan. We CANNOT alienate the people of Pakistan otherwise we'll always have crisis on our hands. We don't want to make the same mistakes of the past. We need to support the new democracy thats only a couple of months old in Pakistan after 9 years of dictatorship. If America does not heed Pakistani Authority then it does NOT legitimize the DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT of Pakistan. And I can tell you the wrath of the Pakistanis is 100 times greater then the Iraqis or Afghanistanis. They have a strong working military and nuclear capablity. We can't afford to make our allys so angry that become our enemies. A compromise must take place when a new administration comes into power between the Pakistanis and the Americans.
-A Pakistani-American Marine
Does the American people really believe that either one of these candidates will deliver on anything they have promised?  All of them make these lofty promises knowing full well most of what they say will be forgotten as soon as the election is over.  Just remember, of these two candidates, when the sh** hits the fan, and it will, which one do you want in office that has the experience to make the critical decisions to protect this country.  It's not who makes the best speeches or who looks the best.  It's not about party affiliation nor is it a popularity contest.  Remember that when you pull the lever in November.
ALL of these concerns and deliberations are going to take a back set to the Depression of '10. We need to pull our resources home, work on employing all Americans even if it means a Civilian Conservation Corps equivalent to the one in the 30's. We have an aging infrastructure that needs a massive overhaul. Let's stop the bleeding (physically and economically) all over the planet and return to our roots.
I don't see an attack happening right after the election, since one this week would have destoyed the economy.  That tells me they don't have the capability.
I think we have TWO equally dumb partners: America for bailing money out, and Pak laughing all the way to the bank! Tax payers dont need congress and senators to vote, I think we need true democracy, and electronic voting from citizens on a daily basis.
We should not worry about what other countries think of our candidates now or on any other issues that only belong to the American people.
We are who we are, and decide what is best for our Country. To the rest of the world, please remember that when one of you are in trouble who is the country that take the first step forward to help your people. ONLY U.S.A.
Actions will always speak louder than Words...
Just pray that the people responsible for these actions Think of the Reprecussions...
As was brought up in the debate last night Pakistan already has nuclear bombs. What is worse is that our policies have left us very little room to work with since they have alinated us from the people we should be working with. Rome took centuries to crumble and fall the Bush administration seems to have done it in eight short years. I guess he's finally found something he's good at.
I could care less about what someone in Pakastian, or anyone in that part of the world, thinks about our election.  Having said that, I do believe Obama will NOT pursue terrorists into Pakastain, or anywhere else for that matter.  Clearly, he does not have the stomach or will power to take this pending disaster on.

As for the question raised earlier "What would the world do without you..."?  The answer is;  German would be the world's native language, or at least those that had blond hair and blue eyes.
Bottom line, this story is useless.  Who cares what citizens of another country think about our presidential race.  They are not the ones voting.
I think it is pretty sad that our country has come to this point where people are so desperate for change that they would want to elect someone who has deceived based on sound bites and deception as Obama has. You know people by what they do and not what they say, hmmmmm, people haven't done their home work by researching what his body of work has been, but instead, they listen to the talking heads on radio and TV, I'm glad that I have a brain, and don't let someone think for me. When the people of Israel wanted a King, they looked on the outside, Height, features, etc., but Jehovah knew who the right person would be because of the stance and morals he would stand for.

So, for the people who have been persuaded what the liberials are crowing for, you may get what you want, but you will see in time the shine and glitter will ware off and the pressure will brake Obama like a broke mule.

Big talk, it is so easy to point fingers, and to talk tough, like I said we will see when the sparkly and glitter man Obama is elected.

Guess what, I'm a Black voter, as if that has to make a difference, and I'm not all swayed with the Rhetoric that has been spewed out of the radios and tv's that has stated that change has to come at what ever cost that people are willing to accept, incredible the audacity of it all.

I wonder if someone of Indian descent or another nationality would get all of the drama that is happening at the moment, maybe, probably not.

The real change that needs to take place is for people to stop looking for the Government to take care of them, and believing those that they have elected to make those promises, which they know they didn't mean to keep any way.

Some much energy, has been exerted, there are other people in this country that has an idea of how government should be ran, but because they have not been made popular by the media, their voices or ideas have been squashed, and never will be given the light of day.

Wake up

Watch out Pakistan, your next on the "2008-2009 BUSH/CHENNEY World Domination Tour", got keep that money coming in at Haliburton, no worries, run out of money,we will bail you out too- life is good in the Bush Regime.
Who cares what Pakistan thinks?  That's the problem with this country we have stopped caring what Americans think and started caring what everyone else thinks.
