Obama's AIPAC speech riles Palestinians

Sen. Barack Obama's speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) on Wednesday shocked many Palestinians, who had hoped he would be a sympathetic advocate for the Palestinian cause in the White House.

Ayman abu Syrieh, 45, owns a grocery store owner in the Old City of East Jerusalem and has been following the campaign on a daily basis. "Every time Obama was on TV, I asked everyone to be quiet, so I could listen to him," Syrieh said. "When he was talking, he represented hope for me and I believed that he would be the one to bring real peace between Palestinians and Israelis."

But Syrieh’s feelings changed after Obama stressed his support for Israel in the AIPAC speech.

"We were looking at him differently, from Bush and the others," Syrieh, the grocer said. "We thought he would bring real peace to the Middle East. I have to be honest with you, I am shocked now."

Throughout Obama’s run for the Democratic nomination, the sentiment toward him has been extremely warm on the streets of Gaza, the West Bank, and east Jerusalem. Many Palestinians see him as charismatic. They believe that because he is African-American, he knows what it is like to be discriminated against, has empathy for the Palestinians plight, and therefore will be more balanced in peace negotiations than they think past presidents have been.

Many Palestinians like to cite a comment Obama made to a small group of Democratic activists in Muscatine, Iowa, early in the campaign: "Nobody is suffering more than the Palestinian people." The comments drew fire in the United States, particularly from supporters of AIPAC, but were not forgotten among Palestinians.

Obama later clarified in a presidential debate that his remark was actually an indictment of the Palestinian leadership that he believes has caused much of the Palestinians' suffering.

Nimer Hammad, spokesman for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, said he was not surprised by the AIPAC speech. "Anyone participating in Jewish conferences in America tries to be more a Likud member than Likud members themselves," Hammad was quoted as saying in the Arab press. Likud is the major center-right political party in Israel.

And Abbas himself was highly critical of Obama comments and reiterated that Palestinians would not accept a Palestinian state without Jerusalem as its capital. "This is totally rejected and Jerusalem is one of the six items on our agenda," Abbas told reporters in Ramallah.  "The entire world knows very well that East Jerusalem (Arab Jerusalem) was occupied in 1967 and we will not accept a Palestinian state without having Jerusalem as the capital of a Palestinian state."

Obama’s speech to AIPAC on Wednesday was a disappointment, if not a shock, to Hamas, a group considered a terrorist organization by the United States. Hamas, in the past, has expressed support for Obama – support that Obama has rejected.

"We must isolate Hamas unless they renounce terrorism, recognize Israel's right to exist and abide by past agreements," Obama said yesterday, basically echoing the demands of the Mideast Quartet – the United States, Russia, the European Union, and the United Nations – which are involved in mediating the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.  "There is no room for terrorist organizations," Obama added.

Hamas didn’t appreciate Obama’s comment. "It will show that the two parties are supporting occupation at the expense of the Palestinian people," Sami Abu Zuhri, Hamas’ spokesman in Gaza, said.

The Israeli press, on the other hand, welcomed Obama’s seemingly full-throated support. Ma'ariv, a popular Hebrew daily newspaper in Israel, ran a frontpage headline calling Obama’s speech an "embrace" of Israel.

And Israel’s Channel 2 broadcast noted that Obama’s statement that "Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided," even exceeds what most current Israeli leaders would say. The statement is something "reminiscent of the days of Menachem Begin's Likud!" said Channel 2's anchor, referring to one of the founding fathers of the state of Israel.

Mahdi Abdul-Hadi, a Palestinian political analyst, told NBC News on Thursday that Palestinians should be pragmatic and understand the circumstances in which Obama spoke before judging his words.

"Remember this is a campaign speech, and he's addressing the most powerful American Jewish lobby. Also, the Democratic nominee has to follow the lines of the party's position," said Abdul-Hadi.

"Those in the Arab world who condemn him are short-sighted, and it is too early to come with strong reactions," Abdul-Hadi said. "Obama needs to keep the party under his leadership and can’t leave room for anyone to doubt his integrity, which could weaken his challenge to McCain."

Asma’a, 23, a student who lives in Wadialjoz, a neighborhood in Jerusalem and works part-time as a social worker, said she is a fan of Obama, but was disappointed by his comments about Jerusalem, which seemed to exclude Palestinians from the future of the city.

"How can he talk about the Palestinian state all the time, and suddenly he says Jerusalem is the capital of Israel? Where is the capital of the Palestinian state?" said Asma’a, who asked not to use her last name.

While Obama’s speech may have won him some new friends in Israel, it seems to have raised doubts in the minds of many Palestinians.

The bitterness of Hilary followers towards Obama is a little out of hand.  Clinton and any other competent politicion would have done the exact same thing in the given situation.  You have to appeal to the right people to get voted in first.  It would have been all over the 24 hour news channels if Obama basically denounced the most powerful jewish lobby to their faces.  In the end peace in the middle east will be very hard to come by, but Obama (and I believe Hilary also does too, nonetheless) has the correct mindset to at least spark hope and lay the path for better relations between Israel and Palestine.
No morals, no integrity, say anything, do anything, and if caught in a faux pas tell everyone to get over it.
When you are the party's nominee, you must speak as the party speaks. Sen. Obama did not say no more than Sen. Clinton said. For all you haters, you will be a hater if he said he would give your family a million dollar. It is just in your way of thinking, that is why the devil is still roaming, he have people like you.
Obama isn't the right person for the President. All he does is serve himself to ensure he can try to win the Presidency. First he sticks with his Rev. then, when it becomes clear Wright is a liability, drops him, talks about helping Palestine, & then, in front of American Jews, has the AUDACITY to say Israel is their capital, when Jews base it as their capital because it's a Holy City to them, but he doesn't make that distinction for Palestinians. All Obama is, is a self-serving person who's more interested in being the first black president rather than being a Great president & he's willing to sell out whoever to do it. No wonder McCain will win this election. At least he's willing to cross-party lines to get the job right & get it done Right, which is the point. As for the Palestinians themselves, Why can't they both have Jerusalem as a capital? Make the city a territory for both of them, make it de-militarized, & have a capital building on each end of the city (West, East).
Make the buildings identical, nothing grander in one than the other & they'll start learning to work together & stop this fighting. The Middle East problem isn't that complex, everyone just isn't willing to cooperate & it's a shame we as Humans can't learn to grow up & forget the past. I think that's enough of a rant from me today.

TO PALESTIANS DON'T EXPECT ANY PRSIDENT OF UNITED STATE TO DIVID JERUSALEM NOT OBAMA OR ANYBODY WIIL  DO THAT. BUT FOCUS ON HOW TO EMBERACE PEACE AND TO ACHIVE PALES STATE FOR A BETTER 2MORROM OF UR PPLE.
HOW COME! YOU, BARACK OBAMA!, COME OUT RIGHT AFTER YOU GOT THE NOMINATION WITH WHOLE WORLD WATCHING AND BELIEVING IN YOU THAT YOU MAY BE THE BEST AND THE LAST HOPE FOR BRINGING THE PEACE  TO EARTH(YES EARTH!: THE WHOLE PLANET!) AND SPEAK LIKE THERE IS NO PALESTINE OR PALESTINIANS!!! LET ME TEACH YOU MISTER! THERE IS NO SOLUTION WITHOUT JERUSALEM FOR PALESTINE! UNDIVIDED??? NOW YOU MADE HISTORY,SIR, BY EXCEEDING ISRAEL'S EXPECTATIONS!!!! GOD LUCK!
Obama's speech on Aipac was very technical. Please you guys should go listen to it again.
The major point he raised was preserving Jerusalem as a holy city and never splitting it. Remember he said something about both Israel and Palestine having access to Jerusalem. As far as i understand, there COULD BE a confederation like thing like we have in UK where Britain, Scotland and etc are part of UK allowing easy access to any part of UK but each mantaining their own identity. I believe Obama will crack this thing but it's really complicated.
Bringing in the Arab league and other middle east leaders will help sort it out.
Jerusalem has held a special and significant place in the Jewish, Islamic and Christian religions for centuries.  It belongs to the world and should be declared "an International City-State", independant of control by any one religious or political group. Each of these religions claims to have a basic, fundamental belief in peace and loving their fellow man.  Put it to the test and let them all work for a Jerusalem that serves them all.
What one says is not always what one does. Yet I do think as well that this approach to things needs a little tuning or evolving, as you will. It is always time for change. The politics at this time in our country (and Planet too?) require people to do things that run the risk of alienating anybody. I am surprised to see such stuborn blindness. Do we always regurgitate what we are fed? I know that we are only a product of the environment that created us, but come on!... Is this pointless controversy all that I can expect to find on the computer these days. Or am I just as foolish. Who is more insane,?, the insane man or the one arguing with him? Then again, I don't see many of you getting off your butts and doing anything about it either.... You earned it... if you want change, make it. This is dumb. goodbye..

So you believe that being in the Military is a prerequisite for being Commander in Chief.  Was Bush really in the Military, Clinton?  I'll give you one better than that.  McCain...Everyone running around deifying McCain POW plight, and believe me it is just that, a plight.

Being a POW for five years makes no one any more patriotic than any other soldier who served in Vietnam.  I served in Vietnam and the only thing that these United States thought I was qualified to be was a janitor.  I have classmates and friends that served in Vietnam who lost their lives and limbs, and this Nation that required them to serve don't even know their names.

In spite of this indignation I and my surviving friends lived very productive lives.  However, another Fifty-thousand soldiers lost  their lives in Vietnam for literally nothing.  The majority of those soldiers if not all were drafted to that war. Certainly no one was standing in line crying "Here I am, Send Me".  Many more fled this country to avoid the Vietnam War.

McCain's patriotism doesn't come as a result of his POW status but rather the fact he took the oath to defend this country with his life, like every soldier did in that war.  Some of those soldiers died, some lost limb and mind, some were mangled for life, some were POW's.  However, death, lost of limb and mind, and mangled lives are ONLY the results, ugliness and  tragedies of war.  These things are only unfortunate outcomes, not patriotism.  When one is DAFTED to a WAR, there are grave consequences for not taking that step forward  and proclaiming your life in the defense of your country, so then, if I am drafted under severe consequences, where is the patriotism?
After Sen. Obama disrespected the great man Dr. WrightI was so shocked I put on hold my support to the Obama Campaign that had included financial contribution. Then Sen. Obama spited Father Pfleger and Trinity Church after Father Pfleger's courageous and meaningful sermon by removing his membership from the church. I became convinced Sen. Obama will sale his soul to the devil to achieve his goal. I can not in good conscience support a person who would sacrifice dignity for political ambitions. I would have supported Sen. Obama regardless of news media attack on Dr. Wright. Sen. Obama along with disrespecting Dr. Wright made me feel I am incapable of thinking for myself. Some of my open-minded white friends shared with me a similar view. Now, the day after clinching the nomination Sen. Obama spoke at the AIPAC with such one-sided favoritism towards Israel never before uttered by a US politician. He spoke as if the Palestinian people were invisible. His campaign of "Change" towards the Palestinian-Israeli conflict would create more hostility towards the US than ever before. I refuse to make excuses for Sen. Obama just because he identifies as black. Now, he has gone hat in hand to Sen. Clinton. People, I think we have seen the handwriting on the wall on Sen. Obama and its not good.
Obama is if nothing else, very intelligent. He speaks very well. He is much more likely to be able to convince foriegn interests to at least listen to our position better than George Bush, whom I consider an idiot. No one man can do everything or change everything and fortunately our political system does require balancing the opinions of the citizens with Democratic principles. The person who can gather the most support from the governing bodies and the people will do better at representing the policies of freedom and equality we say we hold dear. I think Obama has the right qualities of compromise balanced with integrity and wisdom to be a good leader of all facets of our government including the military. I also think having a black and white president overall will help restore our image to the other countries in the world. Balance is the goal we should be seeking not one sided opinions. I have more trust in a man who will change his mind based on better information rather than one who sticks to a proven bad plan.
Sen. Obama is an unknown. Historically, the people  of Africa have enormous difficulty to solve Africa's problems. Will an African-American be different in America? Will he be the panacea for the United States, as advertised? I have enormous doubts, not even because he is a descendant of Africa. My doubts stem from his freightening moral duplicity. Sen. Obama says speaks "white"among whites,  and "black" among blacks ... and can't tell black from white! What is even more terrifying, is  his ultra liberal stance on religion and truth, beginning with abortion. This rules out Catholics as supporters. But not only that. It rules out all people who love God and serve Him in truth, without duplicity! I am trying to be open-minded, but I am frightened!
I just can't believe that he will bring the white house not for the lobbiest, right after he won the nomination, he spoke to strongest lobiest with Aipac, not to look for the peace solution. What a brocken promise.
boo hoo hoo... lands won at war go to the victor...everytime you mess with israel you lose more... i guess god is sending you a message too bad you can't see what is being revealed to you. of course you do not see the wolves in sheeps clothing that are pretending to lead you but in reality they are leading you to slaughter... why should outside governments broker peace deals for you when you can not solve your own internal problems... i can not believe we are asked to help you in your plight when your own people lob missles into israel. it has been a longtime since i remember a deliberate israeli attack on any american but i recall a daily slaughter of americans by arabs for a very longtime... what gives... stop your radicals then call us back... BY THE WAY I AM A DEMOCRAT THAT WILL ONCE AGAIN VOTE REPUBLICAN IN THIS ELECTION... i started voting in 1980 and have voted for one winner and only twice for a candidate. usually the choices here are so bad i vote against someone instead of for someone... our choices may be bad but they are far better than yours.
Obama is as two faced as they come.  To embrace him because he knows how to speak out both sides of his mouth better than anyone else to get elected and then think that he can be trusted to do what is right and fair after he might become President is totally insane.

Obama is simply a bad guy.  His speech was just words, but words are harmful.  His positions in the speech exceeded those of all but the furthest right of the Israeli right wing parties.  Obama supporters may carry the day for this awful person, with their incessant bleating about racism whenever anyone points out that Obama is nothing more than an ultra-left wing limosine liberal.  He takes special interest money, unlike McCain and is the new favorite of corporate money interests.  From his wife, to his pastor, to his friends, to his neighbors; they are all part of the hate - America first crowd that Jeanne Kirkpatrick decried 25 years ago.  As far as the Palestinians go?  One day they will accept blame for their position in this world.  Then and only then, will they be ready for peace.  Until then, they remain nothing more than a larger than average group of terrorists, terrorizing their own people.  Maybe once, just once, the Palestinians could honor an agreement they signed.  Maybe once, just once, they might stop launching rockets and blowing up civilians, which their "leadership" does for no reason other than their hope Israel will retaliate against them while they hide among children, hoping children will die so they will get some great "press" in Europe.  When one analyzes the situation in depth, one is compelled towards the belief that a Palestine and an Israel, living side by side in peace, given their respective intellectual capacicity, would probably be the dominant power in that important area of the world.  Europe, the Sunnis, the Shias, America and the totalitarian regimes of Russia and China would lose out; so they all play this game using Israel and Palestine as pawns.
Jerusakem is mentioned 700 times in the Bible. None in the Quran. None!

Palestine was never a Nation-no stamps, coins, n o nation, a region, but no nation-historical fact.
Why are we complaining?  I'm a Obama supporter but I think what he said in that speech went both ways.  It seems as if everyone only listens to the gaffs that the candidates make other than listening and taking in everything that they're saying.  Look Obama also said that to attain peace between Israel and Palestine the Israelis must free up the border at the Gaza strip to allow a larger economic flow to the Palestinians in order to have some sort of control over their commerce.  And furthermore why is everyone blaming and leaning on the US for this Middle East Peace Accord?  Palestinians and other Arabs blame the US for Palestine when in all actuality it's UK who occupied Palestine in 1948 and then gave it to the UN who then figured out how Israel would be formed.  Give Obama a break!  Maybe you blue collared folks need to take up a book and read!
The Palestinians have been brainwashed by their leadership, which also controls the aid money, and jobs - because that leadership is posed of several heavily armed terrorist groups. Even those that don't like it ae to go along "or else." What to those groups want? Nothing less than the death of every Israeli, and they really won't settle for anything else. These groups cannot be dealt with. Israel, a democracy with arab as well as jewish, christian and atheist citizens and gov't representatives, has tried for decades. Obama needs to see that playing to the palestinian terror groups and their masters in Iran is counterproductive. If he doesn't it endangers not only Israel but us, because wiping Israel out would not solve the Mideast's problems, and the stronger enemies we would aface then would go looking for newer scapegoats to keep themselves in power.
As near as I can tell (correct me if I'm wrong) Obama said nothing at AIPAC that contradicted his previous positions.  The goal of a Palestine with coherent, contiguous borders should be welcome.  In my opinion Jerusalem should be declared a world historical site and be accessible to all and dominated by none.
OBAMA MUST TREAD CAUTIOUSLY IN DEALING WITH THE MIDDLE EAST CRISIS. HE SHOULD STOP TAKING SIDES IN ORDER TO RESTORE HOPE TO THE PALESTINEANS WHO ARE BENT ON MAKING JERUSALEM THEIR CAPITAL.
Gee, what can you expect. He is speaking before the most powerful lobby in the country.
I have studied under Professor Obama, Rashid Khalidi, David Axelrod, and many others mentioned in these articles nowadays. You have to understand, people coming from academic communities (except seasoned pros and hence no-academics like Mr. Axelrod) have polarised backgrounds, because they have to be that way. The is the only sure-shot way to get tenure. So their entire mindset is polarizing. You cannot change that with a few appearances here and there on topcs that go against their grain. His background is relatively clean, even the FBI will admit that. But his own personality is muddled. When teaching us he was still struggling, a grown man of more than 35, with his self-created issue of identity. Whether or not a person is born a bastard, whether or not a person is raised in a multi-racial atmosphere, whether or not your parents were good to you, such issues are best left out of the classroom, and not delved into it in depth if there is no need for it, especially in a torts lecture or business law. On top of that, Barack Obama in a class of fifteen could not in all honesty give us adequate attention. He merely lectured to us, with his thoughts obviously elsewhere - perhaps on his future campaigns, perhaps on his authorataitive wife Michelle - and then went home. He is ambitious. His slave-descendant wife is much more ambitious, and vindictive. He can lecture to the crowds. His wife can lecture to him, and it actually sinks in. But while he did feed our minds as was his academic duty, his distant demeanor did not touch our hearts. John McCain may be evil incarnate, but he is a living-breathing-pulsating evil nonetheless. His convictions are tangible, his arguments pinpoint clearly his mindset, he may swerve occasionally but you still can gather where exactly he stands. And you have a choice. But how to understand the machinations of a mind that as yet does not understand itself, and being so self-centered, and hence, shallow, can not understand fully understand or have compassion for others? Bear this in mind when electing a president. He/She, above all, needs not just to feel the pulse of the people, but to be it.
If it can be understood this strategic move to secure American Jews votes, Obama ddi not need to get to some extreme declarations either (i.e. the Jerusalem issue). This one will backfire on him, if (when elected president) he'd like to move the peace process any further
Personally Amerika will not be able to support Isreal in a couple of years maybe in the next 2 so I would not worry about the Palestinians and Jews. I think the US should focus more on China and Russia, since they show more of a threat then anything. and even more Western European nations are looking at relations with Russia it seems Amerika is loosing the battle for allies. It would have been in Amerika's best interest to have Hillary as president since she atleast had an understand that Amerika is about to go under. Amerika has to worry about themselves first because economically Amerika is collapsing within and soon they wont have any money to spare. But since Amerika is an Imperial Nation only the monarch can run the country (hence Obama's cousins with Chaney.) Amerika's best bet is to revamp it's entire govern body first starting with it's so called Democracy. and the funny thing is in Amerika they only see one side of the fight the Jewish side. As my understanding is the people doing the most harm are the Israelis, and second of all I can not understand Pres Bush talking in Israel about peace when his own grand father supported NAZIS Germany. Talk about some Irony in that one I think the entire would needs to wake up. Thank god for Nations like Russia, China, North Korea, Iran....or we would all be living in an Imperial Amerikan Nation someone needs to take a stand against Amerika itself, even 9/11 is a hoax to plunge it's own nation into war...I feel bad for Amerikans themslves walking so blindly into slavery. Obama isn't going to change a thing.
Not that I care for Israel but we can't very well withdraw support from Israel without increasing the warfare and bloodshed.  All Obama can do is keep Israel propped up while trying to get a solution to the violence but history would tell us that won't happen.  The Arab nations that decry Bush so much are really just like him--everything must be their way or it's all-out war until they get their way.  Israel would be wiped out against nations like that without US support and who wants that on their conscience?  But give Obama a chance to try and work something out if he gets elected.  The worst that can happen is that nothing will change.
what's the solution to such a dilemna both sides want the same thing and won't settle for nothing in between huh and if we somehow came up with a solution to this issue we would alleviate the world's biggest threat now i am wondering how much real energy is devoted to this problem and this issue concerns us all worldwide right? its just seems that we have our priorities misplaced
you can't please eveyone. As you said he is trying to be elected,I think once he ii everyone will be happy. You are right dam if you do and damed if you dont,As for the rev Wright. i have all been in church and the pastor, priest, said something we didnt agree on. get real!
Way to go Kaye!!  The man cannot do something to help until he has authority which he is just really beginning to fight for!!  And it will be a real fight because the GOP will try ANYTHING to get MCWAR elected!!  DO WE WANT THE MAN WHO IS FOR WAR AT ANY COST, WHO WILL CONTINUE BREAKS FOR THE RICH AND THE CORPORATE RICH, WHO WILL CONTINUE ILLEGAL WIRETAPS WITH IMMUNITY TO THE TELCOMS, WHO WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT HEALTHCARE, WHO WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT FREE TRADE, WHO WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT OUR BORDER WITH MEXICO, WHO WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT HELPING OUR ECONOMY (trying to do something about oil prices, trying to help those in foreclosure or close, trying to create jobs instead of supporting those who ship them overseas, BUT WHO WILL TRY TO USE WHAT'S LEFT IN SOCIAL SECURITY FOR THE RICH, WHO WILL APPOINT MORE RIGHT CONSERVATIVE TO THE SUPREME COURT, WHO WILL HAVE ROE VS. WADE OVERTURNED, AND WHO WILL CONTINUE BUSH'S POLICIES INCLUDING KEEPING THE RIGHT TO MAKE DECISIONS AS PRESIDENT WITHOUT CONGRESS VOTING FOR OR AGAINST SUCH AS GOING TO WAR!!!!!!!!!
If this is who you want as the leader of the US, then I don't want to hear any complaints when he does virtually nothing for anyone anywhere!!
THE ONLY WAY TO GO IN '08 IS OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!
McCain, as an Irishman, knows what it is like to be discriminated against too.  We all do in one way or another.  It's time to end the race-card issue, it's total B.S.
Amazing to me that Obama continues to flop back and forth in an effort to secure votes.  Gosh, how strange would it be if he stood his ground for just once.  Just like with the church he resigned from (rsigned from a church?), where there is smoke there is fire.  He is clueless as to what the big picture is nationally.  He needs to grow up a bit.
It's ironic that the originators and purveyors of taqiyya and kitna, two Islamic principles that condone and encourage the use of misinformation, distortions, fabrications, and lies to fool your enemies, would take Obama's speech literally.

Ah, if only he truly believed the things that he said.

Jerusalem is, and has always been, the capital of the Jewish State of Israel. "Palestinian" Arabs (who are no different from other Arabs) only showed an interest in Jerusalem AFTER 1967.

Mohammed despised Jerusalem and bade his followers to pray towards Mecca. Jerusalem is not even mentioned once in the Qu'ran, whereas it is mentioned over 600 times in the Jewish Bible.

The demans for Jerusalem as the capital of a "Palestinian" state is a red herring and a ruse, just as the "right of return" is a red herring and a ruse to eliminate Israel.

There is not, nor has there ever been a place called "Palestine." The land belongs to Israel.

It would be refreshing to hear a presidential candidate say that.
to AT seatle , to be more accurate ,the palestinians ask for their east jerusalem "which was occupied in 1967 , not the entire jerusalem.
I believe that he will be able to help to facilitate a fair compromise between the two countries.
The Palestians do not need help from any American president! Iran will help them!
Here is my my reaction in the form of an email I sent to Obama:

Senator Obama,

While I was excited about your nomination, I am saddened by your pro-Israeli statement at AIPAC.  Your statements have changed in the last 24 hours and are not in line with what you have promised to the American people during your campaign. You said: "Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided.".  Is that fair?    Now putting conditions in opening lines of communication with your adversaries, including Iran, which's  contrary to what you have been  saying throughout the primaries.
I will appreciate you response on being soft to a particular interest group such as AIPAC, which again was, not your policy.

Sincerely

maybe instead of a campaign ploy, Obama is just saying what he believes. That unless Hamas stops terrorizing and killing Israeli citizens and children, and make a serious concerted effort for peace, America is not going to support them
If Palestinians land as of 1967 is not returned to
them,Their will never be any end to this war,
We have to go back to the TEN COMMANDMENTS[GODS LAW]
Not what some off the street preacher saying that fits
the moment. Its time for our leaders to stop kissing
up to the ones that are realy distroying this country.Lobbyest.morality,violence at the movies,
Tobaco and liquer industry, morality at the home and school level and trying to run the world when we can not run our own country,[God has A computer that makes
ours like a tinker toy.And he says that we not kill,
and I believe that means not to be the instument of it,For vengence is his,We say we are A nation under
God.THEN PROVE IT.
You can't please all the people ALL of the time.  What I DO believe is in the sincerity of intent of Barack Obama and his desire and intelligence to do the right thing for America and the American people. We have had righteous men before who were left powerless becoming President because of the Political massaging that has become Washington.  Barack sees this and thusly wants to change Politics.  He can't do it alone, we all know that.  But if we join him in his endeavours,  if the country stands strong with him and supports him (forget the Republicans, they only understand two things..war and MONEY) I do believe he WILL be effective.  I do not doubt his sincerity.  I am a middle aged, white, lower middle class,  female with two sons who are young men, and what I want in a President is someone who sincerely wants to make the changes he talks about and does all he can do to make that happen.

He can't fight the world...but if he does his best, then BEST IS BEST.  And THAT is good enough for me.

The difference between Barack and the other genuinely decent and sincere men who have been President is that his superior intelligence and intuitiveness will always seek out what and "those" he needs to make things happen.  I LOVE Barack Obama!
When you run for President of the United States, you must be 100% supportive of Isael. Obama will only get negative play on all the Jewish influenced networks if he does not tow the Democratic and Republican Party lines.  Obama is in a catch 22.........
thank you Kaye Hunt Wentworth, SD
not all US brain cells are corrupted...
Thanks DrRJP, Orlando, FL I knew my public ed. was
flawed, all of my geography books (albeit awhile ago)
shows the land as Palestine...
P.S. also that little bibical map in mom's holy book.
Kaye Hunt mentions that "American Jews vote, not Palestinians"

There are 3 Million Arab Americans and 7 millions Muslims Americans. I would think they they do vote.
THIS IS THE BEGINNING, AMERICAN PEOPLE WANTED CHANGE
YOU WILL GET IT BUT PLEASE DON'T WHINE.. IT COMES WITH LOTS OF SACRIFICE IT WAS YOUR CHOICE JUST SHUT UP AND TAKE IT LIKE OTHER COUNTRIES DO.IT'S POLITICS THEY WILL SAY ANYTHING TO GET ELECTED AND THEN DO WHAT EVER IT'TAKES TO STAY IN WASHINGTON.
WE ARE JUST THE DUMMIES THAT PUT THEM IN THE
TE HOUSE AND OBAMA IT'S ANOTHER ONE.IT'S POLITICS!
So Hamas was shocked that Obama rejected them again, after he also rejected their support?  Wow, Hamas is really easily shocked!
Kaye Hunt: "Remember, He's not president yet. American Jews vote, not Palestinians. this is a man wise beyond his years and your best bet for justice. he will be sympathetic to your plight, when he is able"
So, until then, please understand that he is lying to everybody but you. WOW! Democrats, you must be very proud.
people of gazu & palestine, should just becme a melting pot with israel; they must realize they are never going to win; get on with their lives to get out of their misery;the world is not on their side; fighting and dying just makes for anger and sorrow and many graves to visit; the children deserve a life, to laugh, to go to school,to travel, to love
I like Obama and I think that he will be a wonderful and successful president. Certainly much better than the idiot that we have in the White House now. Regarding this article, we must remember that Obama is running to become President of the USA not President of the Palestinians, his interest and priority must be what is best for the US not anyother country, regardless of how he feel personally about their plight. It is true that the Palestinians have suffered much in the past and are currently living in a terrrible situation, but one of the greatest problems that the Palestinian people have is a lack of good leadership.  Their leaders have been driven by personal agendas based on revenge and not on creating a good life for their people. Additionally, the Palestinian cause has been used my everyone in the region for their own political motives rather than as a cause for justice for the Palestinians. Iran, Alcaida, PLO, Hamas, and all the other Arab countries of the region have an agenda based on revenge and hatred for Isriel and not really a real interest in making a better life for Palestinians.

Say what you will about the US but we have never failed in our clear message, by every president, since Isrial was created, We are their friends, allies and will never abandon our commitment to this country.  Israel would have dissappeared long ago if it were not for the US. Now Iran is using all the weak countries in the region to attain it's long standing goal of distroying Israel. Their support of terrorists and groups like Hamas is only to attain thier goals against Israel and have nothing to do with making the lives of Palestinians or other Arabs in the region better. Lets be clear about what is going on here.
Obama needs to grow up?

The man will be 47 when he takes office - he is not a child, he is not even close to the youngest man we've had as our president.

This experience argument holds no water, as 3 of the top 5 presidents, considered such by most scholars and experts on the subject, had LITTLE OR NO experience before they became president.

The man cannot win with you people.  If he stays with the church you crucify him for not disowning them or leaving. Then he leaves and you crucify him for not being loyal - it is the people who make our political races all about NONSENSE and never about issues.  Issues are to big for the avg American to understand so they don't want to hear about stuff like that because they can't sound smart trying to repeat it at the water cooler - so instead we resort to "Reality TV" type issues, issues you delat with when you an 8 yr old, that have nothing to do with being a good president and EVERYTHING to do with Ratings and distracting us from what is important.
