Not giving up hope in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq - I remember vividly the moment when the bombing started five years ago. The sound of the air raids and the sirens still echo inside me.

Within minutes of the first siren, columns of smoke climbed the sky and thunderous explosions could be heard everywhere. It brought mixed feelings for many Iraqis; feelings of delight and anxiety, which were overwhelming to me and my family.

On the one hand, there was a strong sense of hope and expectation that this war would lead us to a better future and away from a life that had witnessed many wars and much destruction. On the other hand, there was anxiety that it could all end in disappointment.

On April 9, 2003, our neighbor came running to our house like an excited child, saying that U.S. forces were on the main road of our neighborhood. We did not believe her.

Then we saw them. Some were on the top of a house; others positioned on the ground. A big convoy of tanks and armored vehicles followed shortly. My mother, sister, the neighbor and I went running toward them.

My sister said "hi" to a soldier who looked like the actor Tom Selleck. The convoy spread over the whole neighborhood, as Iraqis greeted soldiers with cheers and big smiles and simple words like "welcome mister" or "hello." Everyone, I mean everyone, was welcoming the troops.

Now, five years later, we can only find but a few optimistic Iraqis in comparison to the many we saw back then. Pessimism has rapidly grown and overwhelmingly dominates the mentality of most Iraqis.

Hopes of a brighter future are dashed by the bad security situation and the difficult living conditions. One now sees people attack the same forces they had once welcomed, even going so far as to attack those who work or cooperate with the troops.

The same place, the same forces, and the same people, yet so much has changed.

Despite the negative turn in Iraq, I hope to celebrate the next anniversary, the sixth, in a prosperous Iraq with wide smiles drawn deep from the heart and reflected on Iraqi faces. I have not given up.

                              Sincerely from a grate-                                 grandmother

This article was one of the best press articles that I had ever read. It tells the story of the truth and the fact of the story as it is and as it was away from fanaticism and self-interests.
I believe that Iraq is now in dire need of such sincere pens and I hope to read more in future.

When it comes to the Invasion and occupation of Iraq, the entire mission is destined to fail.

Didn't Bush/Cheney learn anything in Sunday School (or at the feet of their Mother's) and that is "anything that starts with a lie is destined to fail".
Never give up ; never be Pessimism ! and why so ? you must be  optimistic at all times and I believe you have not forgot the Ex. Regime Dear Rose ??
let me put it in another way ; Child in school will start learning at 6. he will graduate at 22. so its not a one night class , yet he is  willing to continue post graduation ,we  are still at 5 years from education ,and tell all your friends about it ROSE .With all of my best regards

President Bush lied to all of us and invaded Iraq, and now the Hardline Republicans (and I used too be one of them, until I just couldn't feel good about myself anymore and agree with the immoralities and total nonsense that BUSH/CHENNEY began to spew forth), say, "ah, just forget about it", we need to win in Iraq", sorry can't forget about it, and either can the over 3000 parents and wives and kids that have lost their dear loved ones (and the hundred of thousands civilian Iraqis killed) in the dismal swamp called Iraq, that His Royal Highness Bush has got us into, now were supposed to believe that Iran has WMD's and wants to blow us up- give us break, Americans are not as stupid as those two evil men in the oval office would believe- thank you God BUSH and Chenney's days are very numbered.

If you have a chance read this weeks issue of Newsweek. Last FY07 $725 millon of your hard earned tax-paying dollars went to revitalise Iraqi neighborhoods and another 425 mllion is heading to the Bush created money pit, in the forst part of next month, no doubt Haliburton  (Chenney former CEO) or another of Bush/Chenney's bottom-feeding contractor companies Buddys are making a bundle with these pork barrel projects.

So they lie to start the war and then fleece us.  I have hard time giving these tax dollars to Iraq, when my kids are sitting in trailers at school and teachers were I live (who often enter teaching with Masters Degrees), begin with a starting salary of $27,500 and the Police even less.

Chenney, was asked what he thought about 2/3rd's of Americans saying the war was not worth it, his arogant reply was, "SO". Listen America, to start this country some true Patriots dumped a bunch of tea into the Boston Harbor.

A great Idea for true Patriots (are there any out there?) in 2008: lets dump a bunch of Oil on the front lawn of the Whitehouse- maybe it would get there attention.

The war was started on a lie and we just keeping dumping more and more money into Iraq, not too mentioned our precious young men and woman.

When I hear McCain say "we should stay there for a hundred years", the first thing that comes to mind is-did Grandpa forget to take his Meds today?"

I'm with everyone else-lets get out of Iraq ASAP, before we sink lower and lower and lower. I have been a Republican my whole life, but Bush and Chenney have me saying Hillary or Barrack all the way!

Hey Chenney says he doesn't care if the great majority of Americans are againist the invasiona and occupation of Iraq by force- how absurd, arrogant and pious, its prety eazy for Chenney and Bush to feel this way because, were all idoits and there so smart.

I spent the last two years of my life in Iraq-nothing good is going to come out of there

I'm with the dumping oil on the front lawn of the Whitehouse maybe those two evil men, would take notice.

Why can't people just forget about Bush lying about Iraq? Listen everyone we are there, we cannot leave, without victory, we have too keep our number one ranking in the world, we are the best, the rest of the world does not matter.
