Hezbollah game celebrates war vs. Israel

It was a launch party that would have made Microsoft proud, if Microsoft were an anti-Israeli militant group.

Hezbollah held on Thursday what was basically a giant garden party to announce the release of its latest video game, "Special Force II," in which players destroy Israeli tanks, shoot down helicopters and destroy warships; killing Israeli soldiers earns bonus points.

VIDEO: Hezbollah launches video game
Under a giant marquee in Beirut’s dusty southern suburbs, Hezbollah displayed captured Israeli helmets, rifles and ammunition in glass trophy cases. The turret of an Israeli tank and jeep Hezbollah captured during its 34-day war with Israel last summer were set on mounds like garden statues, artistically lit by red and green spotlights. Families took pictures of the Israeli weapons as their children paid $10 for a copy of Special Force II, designed by Hezbollah’s "Internet Division."

Victory party
All week, Hezbollah has been holding victory celebrations to coincide with the end of the conflict in August 2006, which Hezbollah considers a major victory. It’s a war Hezbollah says is not over.

In a speech earlier this week, Hezbollah leader Sayid Hassan Nasrallah declared there is "no ceasefire" with Israel, but only a "halt of offensive operations." Nasrallah also claimed his forces are fully rearmed with rockets that can reach "anywhere" in Israel, but added that he does not want another war.

Until there is a new war – many Lebanese fear it could happen at anytime – young people here can now relive the fighting on their computers.

Hezbollah’s celebrations and new video game may also have a domestic political goal. Many Lebanese now question if the nation gained anything from what Nasrallah calls his "Divine Victory" over Israel.

During the war, as Israel targeted – Lebanese say indiscriminately – the country’s infrastructure, most people here were united behind Hezbollah. But today, Lebanon remains in tatters, and on-going Hezbollah-led protests against the U.S.-backed Prime Minister Fouad Siniora have closed most of the businesses in downtown Beirut and scared away tourists. Lebanon has not moved forward since the war. Lebanon has turned on itself. But that’s not part of the video game.

If you do not like it do not buy it. Video games here in the USA offend other countries. Israel can make a game killing Hezbolla people. It is just a game and silly.
It doesn't mention the squirrels.  What about the spec ops squirrels?  I guess they haven't trained to defend against those sneaky little troopers.
Wow...I never knew Hezbollah was sophisticated enough to develop a video game.

I am impressed.
Where can we get this game?  An interesting platform for sure, having been based on events that occurred last summer.  Graphics aren't half-bad, either.  And only $10...wow!
Heh, go figure.  Definitely aimed a little higher up the evolutionary ladder than the dirtholes they camp in.   I suppose this will make an interesting addition to the utterly tasteless collection, right up there with Border Crossing and Super Columbine Massacre.

As for their "victory", I think the Muslims need to put down the Koran for a few minutes and read up on a gentleman by the name of Pyhrrus.
17th century idiots with updated toys. Only a disinfranchised, misguided, mentally disturbed individual considers murdering other humans other than to protect themselves or others. So it comes as no surprise that these same people came up with the game. Not as a game, but in the name of hate.
It's really ashame they all don't commit suicide and have their "virgins" in the sky. However, if they think that their God will reward them, they are sadly mistaken. God is love, and these sub-human people want to kill His creation.
they are what they are. Stupid. They can tear down a country, but have no clue on how to build a country, hence they are living in squalor and will continue to do so.
i want a game like that
The hopes and dreams of mad men! Not one nation there, has the guts or courage to attack Israel. Its perfectly clear that the State of Israel will never get destroyed. You can only dream...is'nt that right hezbollah.
Maybe the next "divine victory" Hezbollah receives
will be in the form of an Israeli nuke going off in their backyard. This would be a great win for Nasrallah.
lets make a game where we destroy all the holiest shrines of islam. you start the game by holding talks and asking them to stop terrorizing people, if they don't desist then you destroy one of their sacred places. Then you go back to negotiating table and again ask them to stop terrorizing people. If they continue attackng people then you take out a 2nd shrine. You repete this process until there is either no one willing to terrorize people or there are no islamic shrines left to destroy. if a computer can predict the effect of global warming  years into the future, then maybe a computer can predict if this game could put an end to islamic terrorist
I am personally shocked that the sales of this new video game is being allowed!!!! What do we expect of our children then? To tolerate, respect, understand and to co-exist with one another, when the children (our future) are being brain-washed with hate-filled propaganda? No matter if one is a muslim or a jew or a christian, we cannot tolerate such a game. I am already sick of these fanatics that kill in the name of god. What have we all become??? Sheep.....I guess.

How is it possible to say that you do not want war, yet you are announcing a "game" that kills people who are in the Israeli Millitary and causes huge amounts of collateral damage.  That is in essence waging war!  These are two groups however that need to sort out their difference and I am not sure that the US getting involved is going to do any good.  As a matter of fact, I think that it will get us mixed up in another situation where we cannot pull out of such as Iraq, because in the middle east, it appears that getting involved just makes things worse and drains out economy.
Until Israel returns land occupied prior to the 1967 border to the Palestinians Israel will have no peace
From the image, it looks like a crappy game.  I'd try it out, but it's probably loaded with malware.
i'm sure its no Halo3, but sounds fun
I am sick of these idle threats and acts of terrorism by the terrorists of the world. You all think you are safe from complete annihilation. This country (USA) has the ability to destroy these trouble makers, but enough in power are scared to use this ability. I love all peoples of the Earth who are law abiding, live and let live peacefully peoples. I warn you terrorists that sooner or later someone will come into power in this countryt and who will use these weapons of total destruction to wipe your kind off the face of the Earth. To kill innocent children and women and peace loving people, I say there will come a time when the Majority in this country will say enough is enough and we will send you to meet the Supreme maker of man, GOD. Please chose peace. We can all make this world a better place for everyone if we just work together.. DS Wheeler
This story comes across as duplicitous condemation.  There are lots of similar video games like the "Conflict: Desert Storm" series that push a one-sided view of war. http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/conflictds2/index.html
GREAT GAME GOOD JOB
But is the game any good?
I have to say that this article is pretty much blatantly one-sided. All it needs is some anti-semitic labeling of the Lebanese to round it off nicely.

I don't agree with the idea of violent games..it is a form of brainwashing, but how many violent games have been created in the U.S.? Probably the majority that exist. And who is often the 'enemy' in these games? Exactly, the Germans or Russians (WWII or Cold War). Well, I hate to break it to you, but the Israelis ARE the 'enemy' for most Lebanese. They're not really being bombed by Germans or Russians.

As far as displaying captured Israeli gear...that's human nature. How many troops came back from WWII with some kind of Nazi paraphernalia?

And FYI, for the Lebanese it WAS indiscriminate how Israel bombed the hell out of Lebanon's infrastructure all the way up to the airport in Beirut, even though the majority of Hezbollah is in the south.

Anyways, like I said, I don't think that the video game is a good idea, but then again, violent games are probably never a 'good' idea, no matter who's producing them. I don't normally comment on articles, but this one was just too biased. Articles like these just help to perpetuate stereotypes...
these poor kids will never live a good life being exposed to brainwashing like this.... Let the kids be the future, a better life for both sides.
I have heard it all now.  If this weren't so disturbing, it would be laughable.  This is like the Palestinian children's program that features a Mickey Mouse-like character who spews anti-Israeli hate speech.  I know we here in America have our share of political jackasses (and I don't mean the Democrats), but this just trumps anything even they could concoct.  Hey, wait, maybe not....

Thanks for the variety of reporting you've been doing recently.  It's interesting to hear about more than the daily horror of suicide bombings and IED blasts.  Interesting and tragic.
As a fan of video games, including violent ones, I don't condone the theme of this one but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be published.  To do so would be a hypocritical statement saying that violent games should be banned here as well.  I'm a firm believer that crimes aren't caused by video games, just one's upbringing and life experiences.
The fighting will live on for decades more between Jew and Arab decent until the 3000 year old fued has been resolved concerning what should have been the birthright between Ismael and Isaac, one of jewish decent the other half Arab half Jew. Israel knows what the issue is but I fear they will not discuss this issue, ever ! This is what adds fuel to the fires of war between Arab decent (Palastinians) and Jew...
For a Hezbollah Leader who doesn't want another war, promoting a war game shows ignorance. From my point of view Isreal can take care of its self. I have been there quite a few times. Even if Hezbollah could even be honest as far to it's losses, death tolls, and etc, which I would highly doubt they suffered great losses as well as the Lebaneese.

Times have changed and we all need to learn to change with the times and exist with each other. We shouldn't be considered as a mixture of races, but as people. We should respect each others beliefs and get along as good nieghbors. Former Marine. In war no one really wins. We need to forgive and forget and move on and look forward to the fucture.
all i can say that is sad how kids are been brain washed
Hezbolla aka Army of God follows the rich history of Nazis, Bolsheviks, way back to the Philistines and some Pharoahs who hid behind the anti-semite/anti-Israel scapegoat banner.  Rather than be true leaders of their "people" they persist in propagating hate to justify their own toxic existence and are condemned to experience the outcome that history has shown such losers.
Why can't we just blow up the entire Middle East and call it a loss that will better mankind in the future?
I wonder if you get 72 virgins every time you die.
It is clear that while Hezbollah claims to have the interests of the Lebanese people as the most important goal, what a small cadre of people really want is total control of Lebanon as a first step to eliminate Israel.  While Israel is not blameless nor is U.S. policy in the region the leadership of Hezbollah will not make any attempt to work with its own people to ensure their protection, which is what I always thought was the main responsibility of any government.  It would rather risk the very lives of its own rather than come to some sort of cooperative living agreement with its neighbor.
Good for the Hezbollah   to create a video game about beating Israel in a war.  becuase  its the only way they are  going to ever be able to do it.
dont think it will be a  big seller any where but in Lebanon
Well, if we can't see what's coming then we have to be fairly blind!  Old saying "bowling a frog" or something like that.
People play virtual war games everywhere, especially here in the US, how is this any different?Let me guess it depends on "who" is playing and which side they are on.
Wow, and they(terrorists) wonder why we dont like them.
Hezbollah is a misguided evil entity. Allah would definitely not approve of them. The Allah I know and read about is kind, loving, and forgiving. Islam can further its cause by follow the true Allah and not some vindictive entity made up my evil, greedy men.
Gee...I wonder why Israel hasn't thought of producing video games wipiing out the Arabs, say, after the 67 war, or the Yom Kippur War?...Maybe it's ot part of their psyche to kill and hate?!!...
Dear Richard, It is sad that Lebanon has not moved forward since the war. All of this conflict as you stated destroys the businesses and the people trying to make an honest living and no foreigners can even visit Beirut. The children being exposed to these violent video games while their parents took pictures of the weapons leaves one to wonder how these children are going to turn out as adults. Reliving such horrors of war cannot be good psychologically for anyone. Was the "Divine Victory" really a divine victory as the results are obviously showing throughout the region. As you stated the resulting factor of the war being that the "infrastructure is in tatters" is not exhibited in the video game. One can only hope that this can be repaired, but it will take a long time. As always stay extra safe Richard! You do a suberb job of reporting! Peace to all!
They're the bad guys(even though it's their country) And we're the Good Guys (even though we bomb children and torture) Why don't they get it.
Eh, I've seen worse videogames than this.  Destroying Israel tanks and such sounds like any generic FPS war game, cept with Israel as the enemy instead of Germany or Russia.

More telling is whether or not Hezbollah is actually doing a decent job in rebuilding Lebanon, which doesn't seem to be the case.
Wait a minute, i play a lot of call of duty 3 online and killed a lot of germans. Does that make me a terrorist too?  :-)
I say we buy a bunch of copies, plant devices in them and then ship them back to hezbollah. Who is with me!?!?!
Every time I look, I see another reason to call ORKIN and rid the world of Muslim vermin.
Without infrastructure, who can play these games? Then again, without open schools and places to work I guess theres lots of free time to play.
Hez-eboli is just another muslim terrorist group looking to kill Christians and jews, they hate everyone who's non Muslim. Pretty much like cancer cells hating health cells. Read the Bible and you'll find out how this all ends.
Dito Jay Chicago Il What a scribe concise and acurate. If anyone is sincerly intersted in what Islam and Allah is about do some research on "who is the moon God?" on google.
I'm undecided - because I've never played any game, let alone this one.
This game would be too long if it had to remove all of the 2.000.000 landmines which Israel planted along a border line in Lebanon. Better play on the PC, it's less damaging. Thank you, ongoing friendly neighbours !
72 virgins?  No way...Not into teaching!
Hezbollah, Al Qaida, Iran(under seige from its leader), the 'brainwashing techniques used all remind me of another period of time, when appeasement was the plan for coexistence between different worlds.  Again, we face the onslaught of madness, this time with atomic annillation behind it, and what do we do.  Wring our hands and complain about everyone else not doing something.  Move yourself from the middle road and decide to either with peace-loving mankind or cross over to the 'other' side.  Then we peace lovers will know where we stand and who our enemy really is.  Actions will be forthcoming...
